Description

Technician can check the ignition spark at spark plugs by using a scantool or cranking the engine. If there is the ignition spark at spark plugs, go to "Possible Ignition Inspection" procedure. If there is no ignition spark at spark plugs, go to "Impossible Ignition Inspection" procedure.

Diagnostic Procedure
Ignition Spark Inspection using a Scantool
1.

Connect a scantool to Data Link Connector(DLC).

2.

IG "ON"

3.

Perform the actuation test of the ignition coil using a scantool.

4.

Check the ignition spark at spark plugs.

5.

Is there the ignition spark at the spark plug ?

YES

Go to "Possible Ignition Inspection" procedure.

NO

Go to "Impossible Ignition Inspection" procedure.

Remove the ignition coil and spark plug.

7.

IG "START"

8.

Check the ignition spark at the spark plug.

caution

1. Engine cranking time should not over 5 to 10 second.

2. Remove the "Fuel pump relay" or "Injector fuse" to prevent fuel injection from injectors while engine is cranked.

9.

Is there ignition spark at the spark plug?

YES

Go to "Possible Ignition Inspection" procedure.

NO

Go to "Impossible Ignition Inspection" procedure.
