Description
caution

First of all check damage of terminals : Check terminals for contact resistance, corrosion and deformation.

When battery power is not supplied to ECM although main relay circuit is normal. Inspect the main relay (coil and contacts).

Diagnostic Procedure
Main relay coil resistance inspection
1.

IG KEY "OFF", ENGINE "OFF"

2.

After approx. 10 seconds later disconnect a main relay.

3.

Before measuring resistance, you must calibrate(0Ω) the tester.

4.

Measuring the resistance between main rely component terminal "85" and "86".

A.

Specification : 75Ω ± 10% (20℃)

Measuring the resistance between main rely component terminal "30" and "87".

A.

Specification : Discontinuity (Infinite Ω)

6.

Measuring the resistance between main rely component terminal "87" and "87a".

A.

Specification : Continuity (below 1.0 Ω)

7.

Actuate the main relay after supplying power and ground to main relay component terminal "85" and "86".

- Inspect operating sound in the main relay when power is supplied.

8.

Measure the resistance between main rely component terminal "30" and "87", "87a". (Actuate main relay after supplying power and ground to main relay component terminal "85" and "86".)

A.

Specification : Continuity (below 1.0Ω)

B.

Case 1 : In case of high resistance of the main relay coil (Open).

Main relay is not operated.

Engine starting is impossible because battery power is not supplied to ECM and sensors.

Communication between the ECM and scantool is impossible.

C.

Case 2 : In case of low resistance of the main relay coil (Short).

According to short condition, ECU would be damaged by high current when the main relay is operated.

Main relay is not operated.

Engine starting is impossible because battery power is not supplied to ECM and sensors.

Communication between the ECM and scantool is impossible.

D.

Case 3 : In case of intermittent poor connection between contacts. (main relay coil is normal.)

DTC "P0685 ECM/PCM power relay control circuit open" would be displayed.

Engine starting is impossible because battery power is not supplied to ECM and sensors intermittently.

Communication between the ECM and scantool is impossible intermittently.
