Terminal and Connector Inspection
Check for Wiring Harness
1.

Check for damaged harness and terminals including rubber seals :

-. contact resistance, oxidation, corrosion, bent or broken terminals

-. harness connector connection, loose wires etc.

2.

Check for poor connection between ECM and component :

-. backed out terminal, improper mating, broken locks and poor terminal to wire connection

3.

ARE THE WIRES O.K ? & ARE THE CONNECTIONS O.K ?

YES

a.

Go to "Signal Circuit Inspection" procedure

NO

a.

Repair as necessary and go to " Verification of Vehicle Repair " procedure

Signal Circuit Inspection
Problem Verification
1.

DTCs listed below are stored in the scan tool

P1660

2.

Check items with the scan tool and the multimeter

① Wiring harness inspection

② Check the reference voltage

③ Check the cruise control switch

3.

Specification

1)

Resitance : below 1 Ω for open in the wire

2)

Resitance : infinite for short to ground in the wire

3)

Voltage : below 0.5V for short to power in the wire

4)

Reference voltage : Approx. 5V from the ECM

4.

Disconnect the LH cruise control switch and turn the ignition switch ON. measure the voltage at the LH cruise control switch terminal 2 and terminal 1

5.

IS THERE A BATTERY VOLTAGE ?

YES

a.

Intermittent failure, system is O.K at this time.

b.

Check for poor connections or losse wire between the LH cruise control switch and the ECM

c.

Go to step 5

NO

a.

Repair open or short in the wire between the LH cruise control switch terminal 2 and the ECM terminal 40/230-1.

b.

Repair open or short in the wire between the LH cruise control switch terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 74/C230-1.

c.

Go to step 3

6.

Measure the voltage at the ECM terminal 40/C230-1 and the ECM terminal 74/C230-1.

7.

IS THERE A BATTERY VOLTAGE ?

YES

a.

Recheck open or short in the wire between the LH cruise control switch terminal 2 and the ECM terminal 40/230-1.

b.

Recheck open or short in the wire between the LH cruise control switch terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 74/C230-1.

c.

Go to step 5

NO

a.

Replace a known - good ECM and recheck. If the battery voltage is checked, replace the ECM.

8.

Measure the voltage at the LH cruise control switch terminal 3 and terminal 1

9.

IS THERE approx. 4.5V ?

YES

a.

Intermittent failure, system is O.K at this time.

b.

Check for poor connections or losse wire between the LH cruise control switch and the ECM

c.

Go to step 9

NO

a.

Repair open or short in the wire between the LH cruise control switch terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 75/230-1.

b.

Go to step 7

10.

Measure the voltage at the ECM terminal 75/C230-1 and the ECM terminal 74/C230-1.

11.

IS THERE approx. 5V ?

YES

a.

Recheck open or short in the wire between the LH cruise control switch terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 75/230-1.

b.

Recheck open or short in the wire between the LH cruise control switch terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 74/C230-1.

c.

Go to step 9

NO

a.

Replace a known - good ECM and recheck. If approx.5V is checked, replace the ECM.

12.

Disconnect the RH cruise control switch and turn the ignition switch ON. measure the voltage at the RH cruise control switch terminal 3 and terminal 1.

13.

IS THERE approx. 4.5V ?

YES

a.

Intermittent failure, system is O.K at this time.

b.

Check for poor connections or losse wire between the RH cruise control switch and the ECM

c.

Go to step 13

NO

a.

Repair open or short in the wire between the RH cruise control switch terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 75/230-1.

b.

Repair open or short in the wire between the RH cruise control switch terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 74/C230-1.

c.

Go to step 11

14.

Measure the voltage at the ECM terminal 75/C230-1 and the ECM terminal 74/C230-1.

15.

IS THERE approx. 4.5V ?

YES

a.

Recheck open or short in the wire between the RH cruise control switch terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 75/230-1.

b.

Recheck open or short in the wire between the RH cruise control switch terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 74/C230-1.

c.

Go to step 12

NO

a.

Replace a known - good ECM and recheck. If approx. 5V is checked, replace the ECM.

16.

Connect the LH cruise control switch and turn the ignition switch ON. measure the voltage at the LH cruise control switch terminal 2.

17.

IS THERE A BATTERY VOLTAGE ?

YES

a.

Go to step 15

NO

a.

Replace the LH cruise control switch. For more detailed information, Go to "Component Inspection" procedure

b.

Go to step 15

18.

Measure the voltage at the LH cruise control switch terminal 3.

19.

IS THERE approx. 5V ?

YES

a.

Go to step 17

NO

a.

Replace the LH cruise control switch. For more detailed information, Go to "Component Inspection" procedure

b.

Go to step 17

20.

Connect the RH cruise control switch and turn the ignition switch. measure the voltage at the RH cruise control switch terminal 3.

21.

IS THERE approx. 4.5V ?

YES

a.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

Replace the RH cruise control switch. For more detailed information, Go to "Component Inspection" procedure
