Description
caution

First of all check damage of harness and terminals : Check terminals for contact resistance, corrosion and deformation.

Impossible starting, engine stalling, engine hesitation would be caused by low fuel pressure. Inspect fuel pump relay and fuel pump control circuit (open, short and poor connection).

Diagnostic Procedure
Fuel pump circuit inspection
Fuel pump relay inspection (U/H junction box side).
1.

IG KEY "OFF", ENGINE "OFF"

2.

Remove the fuel pump relay.

3.

Measure the votage of the terminal on the E/R compratment junction box.

A.

Case 1 : In case that battery power is supplied at all terminal.

Go to "Fuel pump power supply inspection" procedure as below.

B.

Case 2 : In case that battery power is not supplied at terminal "30".

Repair fuel pump fuse (15A) blown on the U/H junction box.

If fuel pump fuse (15A) is blown again, Repair short to ground in fuel pump circuit between fuel U/H junction box connector (U/H-U) terminal "9" and fuel pump connector (F22) terminal "4".

C.

Case 3 : In case that battery power is not supplied at terminal "85" (IG KEY "ON").

Inspect the engine control relay and sensor#1 fuse (10A) on the U/H junction box.

If sensor#1 fuse (10A) is blown again, Repair short to battery in relay coil power circuit.

If main relay (engine control relay) is not operated, Go to "Main relay circuit inspection" procedure.

D.

Case 4 : In case abnormal voltage at terminal "86" (IG KEY "ON").

- Specification : Approx. 3.5 V

DTC "P0231 Fuel pump secondary circuit low" would be displayed.

Repair open circuit between fuel pump relay terminal "86" (U/H junction box side) and ECM connector (C230-A) terminal "45".

Fuel pump power supply circuit inspection. (E/R compartment junction box side).

IG KEY "OFF", ENGINE "OFF"

5.

Remove the fuel pump relay.

6.

Before measuring resistance, you must calibrate(0Ω) the tester.

7.

Measure the voltage between fuel pump relay terminal "87" and chassis ground.

"Multitester Calibration" of "Details Inspection(Equipment Setting)" reference

A.

Specification : Continuity (below 5.0 Ω)(20℃) (Resistance can be changed by motor coil temperature in the fuel pump)

B.

Case 1 : In case of discontinuity (Infinite Ω),

Repair open circuit between fuel pump relay connector (U/H junction box side) terminal "87" and fuel pump connector (F22) terminal "4".

Repair open circuit between fuel pump connector (F22) terminal "5" and chassis ground (G05).

Repair open in the inside of fuel pump.

C.

Case 2 : In case of high resistance,

Repair high resistance in the fuel pump.

Repair poor connection between fuel pump relay connector (U/H junction box side) terminal "87 and fuel pump connector (F22) terminal "4".

Repair poor connection between fuel pump connector (F22) terminal "5" and chassis ground (G05).

In case of poor connection, Go to "Fuel pump current inspection" procedure for detail inspection.
