Description

If improper ECTS(Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor) signal is sent to PCM, it could be the cause of delayed starting.

Diagnostic Procedure
ECTS Current data Inspection
1.

Connect a scantool to Data Link Connector(DLC).

2.

IG "ON"

3.

Select the current data function on the scantool.

4.

Check if there is a big difference between "Coolant Temperature sensor" and "Intake Air Temperature sensor".

A.

Specification : At initial starting, coolant temperature sensor is similar to intake air temperature sensor. (ECTS is not lower than IATS at warm condition.)

5.

Is the ECTS data normal?

YES

ECTS is OK.

NO

Go to "Power circuit Inspection" procedure as below.

ECTS Power circuit Inspection
6.

IG "OFF"

7.

Disconnect the ECTS Connector.

8.

IG "ON"

9.

Measure the voltage between terminal "3" of the ECTS harness connector and chassis ground.

caution

Probe(+) : Terminal "3" of the ECTS harness connector.

Probe(-) : Chassis ground

A.

Specification : Approx. 5V

10.

Is the measured voltage within Specification?

YES

Go to "Ground circuit Inspection" procedure as below.

NO

Faulty PCM

ECTS Ground circuit Inspection
11.

IG "OFF"

12.

Disconnect the ECTS Connector.

13.

Measure resistance between terminal "1" of the ECTS harness connector and chassis ground.

caution

Probe(+) : Terminal "1" of the ECTS harness connector.

Probe(-) : Chassis ground

A.

Specification : Below 0.5Ω

14.

Is the measured voltage within Specification?

YES

Faulty ECTS

NO

Check for open between ECTS harness connector and PCM harness connector.
