Description
caution

First of all check the battery concition and starter before inspection. If battery condition is not good, communication between ECM and scantool is impossible because of voltage drop. Therefore data would be abnormal.

If irregular compression pressure (irregular engine rpm) is displayed or engine cranking sound is abnormal in the vehicle that has engine hesitation or hard starting symptom, Inspect the engine compression pressure by using compression pressure gauge.

Diagnostic Procedure
Compression pressure inspection
1.

IG KEY "OFF", ENGINE "OFF"

2.

Remove the intercooler.

3.

Remove all injector connectors for impossible starting.

4.

Remove the injetor.

"Remove and Install the Injector" of "Details Inspection(Equipment Setting)" reference

5.

Install the compression pressure gauge (09351-27000) and adapter (09351-27100).

6.

Block the common rail with plug (CRT-1022) for preventing fuel injection through high pressure pipe.

7.

While cranking the engine, measure the maximum compression pressure.

- Report the number of engine cranking and compare with normal cylinder. (Generally, the number of engine cranking for maximum compression pressure is below 10 times cranking.

- Compression pressure should be inspected at normal operating temperature 80 ~ 95 ℃.

- According to inspection condition, The compression pressure and the number of engine cranking for maximum compression pressure can be changed.

A.

Specification : 30Kg/㎠ ± 10% (The number of cranking is below 10 times.)

(The variation of the compression pressure of cylinders < 10 %)

B.

Case 1 : In case that the compression pressure is low at certain cylinder.

Pour a small amount of engine oil into the cylinder through the spark plug hole and repeat steps.

If adding oil helps the compression, it is like that the piston rings and/or cylinder bore are worn or damaged.

If pressure stays low, a valve may be sticking or seating is improper, or there maybe leakage past the gasket.

C.

Case 2 : In case that the compression pressure of all cylinders is low.

Go to "Engine timing belt alignment inspection" procedure.
