Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Electrical systems consist of a lot of harness and connectors, poor connection of terminals can cause various problems and damage of component.

2.

Perform checking procedure as follows.

(1)

Check damage of harness and terminals : Check terminals for contact resistance, corrosion and deformation.

(2)

Check connecting condition of ECM and component connector : Check terminal separation, damage of locking device and connecting condition between terminal and wiring.

note

Disconnect the pin which requires checking at male connector and insert it to the terminal at female connector for checking connecting condition.(After checking, reconnect the pin at correct position.)

3.

Is the problem found?

▶ Repair the trouble causing part and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to "CAN communication circuit".

CAN communication circuit
■ Check resistance in CAN communication circuit
1.

IG key OFF.

2.

Check resistance between terminal 3 and terminal 11 at 'DATA LINK CONNECTOR'(DLC) with all ECU(communcating through CAN line) connector connected.

Specification : 60 ± 3Ω

3.

Disconnect all ECU(communcating through CAN line) connector.

4.

Check resistance between terminal 3 and terminal 11 at 'DATA LINK CONNECTOR'(DLC) .

Specification : 120 ± 3Ω

5.

Is the measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "Check short to battery and short to ground in circuit" as follows.

▶ Both connector connected and connector disconnected are.

☞ If resistance is lower than 10Ω, repair short to CAN High in CAN Low circuit each other and then, go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

☞ If resistance is ∞ Ω, repair CAN High or CAN Low is open in circuit and then, go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

■ Check short to battery and short to ground in circuit
6.

IG key OFF.

7.

Disconnect connectors of all ECU communication throgh CAN line.

8.

IG key ON.

9.

Check voltage between terminal 3 of 'DATA LINK CONNECTOR'(DLC) and chassis ground.(CAN High)

10.

Check voltage between terminal 11 of 'DATA LINK CONNECTOR'(DLC) and chassis ground. (CAN Low)

Specification : 0.0V~0.1V

11.

IG key OFF.

12.

Check resistance between terminal 3 of 'DATA LINK CONNECTOR'(DLC) and chassis ground. (CAN High)

13.

Check resistance between terminal 11 of 'DATA LINK CONNECTOR'(DLC) and chassis ground.(CAN Low)

Specification : Infinite (∞ Ω)

Is the measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "Check open in circuit" as follow.

▶ If no voltage is detected, repair short to ground in circuit and then, go to 'Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ If the voltage is high than specification value, repair short to battery in circuit and then, go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

■ Check open in circuit.
15.

IG key OFF.

16.

Disconnect all ECU connectors.

17.

Check resistance between terminal 3 of 'DATA LINK CONNECTOR'(DLC) and CAN High terminal of each control unit harness connector. (ECM↔TCM, ECM↔ABS/ESP ECM, ECM↔4WD ECM, etc)

18.

Check resistance between terminal 11 of 'DATA LINK CONNECTOR'(DLC) and CAN Low terminal of each control unit harness connector. (ECM↔TCM, ECM↔ABS/ESP ECM, ECM↔4WD ECM, etc)

Specification : Continuity (Below 1.0Ω)
