COMPONENT LOCATION
GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The TCM can either receive data from the Engine Control Module or ABS control module, or it can send data to the ECM and ABSCM by using CAN communication.

The CAN communicaton is one of the vehicle communications method, which is now widely used to transfer signals.

DTC Description

The TCM reads data on the CAN-BUS line and checks whether the data is equal to the data which the TCM sent before.

If the data is not the same the TCM decides that either the CAN-BUS line or TCM are malfuncting and sets this code.

SIGNAL WAVEFORM
Monitor Scantool Data
1.

Connect scantool to data link connector(DLC).

2.

Engine "ON".

3.

Monitor the "CAN COMMUNICATION SERVICE DATA (ENGINE RPM, VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR, THROTTLE P. SENSOR)" parameters on the scantool.

4.

Compare it with referance data as below.

Does "CAN BUS LINE DATA " follow the referance data?

▶ Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor's and/or PCM/TCM's connector or was repaired and PCM/TCM memory was not cleared. And go to Verification of Vehicle Repair procedure.

▶ Replace PCM/TCM and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

TERMINAL AND CONNECTOR INSPECTION
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals.

Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found?

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Go to "Signal Circuit Inspection" procedure.

SIGNAL CIRCUIT IHSPECTION
1.

Check for open in harness

(1)

Ignition "OFF" & Engine "OFF".

(2)

Disconnect ECM & TCM connector.

(3)

Measure resistance between terminal 4 of TCM harness connector and terminal 9 of ECM harness connector.

(4)

Measure resistance between terminal 3 of TCM harness connector and terminal 10 of ECM harness connector.

Specification : Approx. below 1Ω

(5)

Is the measured resistance within specifications ?

▶ Go to "Check for short to ground in harness" as below.

▶ Check for open in the signal harness.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

2.

Check for short to ground in harness.

(1)

Ignition "OFF" & Engine "OFF".

(2)

Disconnect TCM,ECM, TCCU and HCU connector.

(3)

Measure resistance between terminal 4 of TCM harness connector and chassis ground.

(4)

Measure resistance between terminal 3 of TCM harness connector and chassis ground.

Specification : Infinite

(5)

Is the measured resistance within specificaitons ?

▶ Go to "Component Inspection" procedure.

▶ Check for short to ground in signal harness.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

COMPONENT INSPECTION
1.

Check resistance

(1)

Ignition "OFF" & Engine "OFF".

(2)

Disconnect TCM connector.

(3)

Measure resistance between terminal 3 and 4 of TCM harness connector.

(4)

Is the measured resistance within specifications ?

▶ Go to "Check signal waveform" as below.

▶ Substitute with a known-good ECM and check for proper operation.

If the problem is corrected, replace ECM and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

2.

Check signal waveform

(1)

Ignition "OFF" & Engine "OFF".

(2)

Disconnect ECM connector.

(3)

Monitor signal waveform at terminal 3 and 4 of TCM connector simultaneously.

Specification
(4)

Are CAN signals generated correctly ?

▶ Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Substitute with a known-good ECM and check for proper operation.

If the problem is corrected, replace ECM and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR

After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected.

1.

Connect scan tool and select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes(DTCs)" mode and then clear DTC.

2.

Operate the vehicle within DTC Enable conditions in General information.

3.

Are any DTCs present ?

Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure.

System is performing to specification at this time.
