Description

An Engine doesn’t stall quickly by abnormal fuel system. Engine stalling is delayed by remaining fuel pressure. Therefore engine stalls after poor accelerating or hesitating. Engine stalling caused by abnormal fuel system should be checked fuel pressure by inspecting fuel pump and connection of fuel pump power circuit.

Diagnostic Procedure
Harness of fuel pump relay Inspection
1.

IG "OFF"

2.

Disconnect the fuel pump relay

3.

Check pin connections of the relay box and the fuel pump relay.

4.

Disconnect the fuel pump connector and check pin connections.

5.

Are pin connections of fuel pump relay and fuel pump connector normal?

YES

Go to "Fuel pressure Inspection" procedure as below.

NO

Repair(Replace) pin connections of the fuel pump relay and fuel pump connector.

caution

■ Method of checking fuel pump power circuit.

1. IG "ON"

2. Connect "30" terminal and "87" terminal with jump wire after disconnecting the fuel pump relay.

3. Measure voltage of the fuel pump connector after disconnecting the fuel pump connector.

※ If voltage is measured as above fig2 after providing power directly, power circuit of the fuel pump is normal.

Fuel pressure Inspection
6.

Check the fuel for excessive water, alcohol,or other contaminations.

7.

Install a fuel pressure gauge.

8.

Engine "ON"

9.

Check fuel pressure of the fuel pressure gauge. (Check fuel pressure at idle, accelerating and stall test)

A.

Specification : Approx. 350 kpa (3.5kg/cm², 49.8psi) at idle

(Fuel pressure is kept Approx. 360 kpa (3.6kg/㎠, 51.2psi) after it dropped to Approx. 320kpa(3.2kg/㎠, 42.7psi) at rapid accelerating and stall test.)

10.

Is fuel pressure within specification when vehicle is accelerated?

YES

Fuel pump is OK.

NO

Replace the fuel pump assembly.

caution

■ Performance test of the fuel pump by ampere meter

1. Install ampere meter to power supply harness of the fuel pump after starting engine.

2. Measure ampere of power supply harness accelerating engine.

Ampere specification : 4.8~5.0 A
