Description

Because excessive fuel consumption is caused by engine overheating, coolant should be checked.(antifreeze mixture percentage and coolant quantity).

Diagnostic Procedure
Coolant level visual inspection
1.

Be sure the vehicle is on level ground.

2.

Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.

3.

Check the coolant level on the coolant reservoir.

4.

Is coolant level is normal?

YES

Go to "Antifreeze mixture percentage" as below.

NO

Adjust the coolant level and go to "Antifreeze mixture percentage Inspection" procedure as below.

Antifreeze mixture percentage Inspection
5.

IG "OFF"

6.

Check the antifreeze mixture percentage with refractometer

A.

The freezing point and specific gravity of antifreeze by mixture percentage

7.

Is antifreeze mixture percentage normal?

YES

Antifreeze is OK

NO

If antifreeze mixture percentage is not gook, adjust the antifreeze mixutre percentage.

caution

Caution when the coolant is added

☞ When coolant is added, add mixture of water and antifreeze.(Antifreeze : 40%, Water : 60% )

☞ If antifreeze is too excessive or little, coolant system would be damaged.

caution

☞ If antifreeze mixture percentage is under 30% , Corrosion resistance would be down.

☞ If antifreeze mixture percentage is over 60% , Engine cooling efficiency is getting worse.(Engine would be damaged)

☞ The engine must be protected by an ethylene-glycol-based coolant to prevent corrosion and freezing.(Do not use alcohol or methanol antifreeze or mix them with the specified coolant)
