Description

ECM includes power TR which controls ignition coil, According to CKP & CMP signals ECM controls the base of the power TR. The purpose of inspection is to check ignition coils and cables.

Diagnostic Procedure
Harness Inspection
1.

IG "OFF"

2.

Check connection of the ignition coil connector after removing the ignition coil connector.

3.

Check connection of the ECM connector after removing the ECM connector.

4.

Are connectors of the ignition coil and engine ECM normal?

YES

Go to "Ignition coil Inspection" procedure as below.

NO

Repair the pin of the connector or Replace the harness.

Ignition coil Inspection
5.

IG "OFF"

6.

Measure primary coil resistance after removing ignition coil connectors. [Primary resistance is measured between (+) terminals and (-) terminals.]

7.

Measure secondary coil resistance after removing spark plug cables. (Secondary resistance is measured between center terminals and center terminals.)

A.

Specification of Ignition Coil Resistance

Primary Coil : 0.58Ω±10%, Secondary Coil : 8.8㏀±15%

8.

Are the primary and secondary resistance of ignition coil normal?

YES

Ignition coil is OK.

NO

Replace the ignition coil.

caution

■ Measure a primary waveform of the ignition.

Connect channel 1 probe of the scantool to #1,4 terminal of the ignition coil connector. (#2,3 ignition coil is same)
