Description
caution

When Impossible starting, engine hesitation, poor power (acceleration) and abnormal compression pressure occur, engine timing alignment should be inspected.

Make sure that another contact trouble between intake (exhaust) valve and piston also can be caused by in accurate engine timing alignment.

Diagnostic Procedure
Engine timing alignment inspection
1.

IG KEY "OFF", ENGINE "OFF".

2.

Remove the timing belt upper cover.

- Check the timing belt for abnormal wear, cracks or damage.

3.

Turn the crankshaft pulley to clockwise, and align its groove with timing mark "T" of the timing belt cover.

4.

Inspect the timing mark on the camshaft sprocket with mark on the cylinder head.

- Inspect the white timing mark on the camshaft sprocket with mark on the cylinder head. (If the white timing mark on the camshaft is on the left, Turn the crankshaft pulley a full revolution to clockwise.

A.

Case 1 : In case of inaccurate engine timing alignment between crankshaft sprocket and camshaft sprocket.

Align timing belt after removing timing belt.

Inspect damage of intake (exhaust) valves and pistons by abnormal contacting.

B.

Case 2 : In case of accurate engine timing alignment (but engine hard starting occurs) .

Inspect damage of the dowel after removing camshaft sprocket from camshaft.
