Description

If exhaust fumes is discharged through muffler, CPF would be damaged. In case of small crack in the CPF by faulty component, a small quantity of black smoke would be shown through muffler.

But if lots of black smoke is discharged through muffler, there is fatal damage in the CPF. CPF would be damaged by the cause of black smoke.

Finding the cause of damage in the CPF is very important before replacing the CPF.

Diagnostic Procedure
Classify symptoms.

Case 1 : In case that a small quantity of black smoke is discharged through muffler, there is no trouble symptom.

Go to "CPF visual inspection" procedure.

Case 2 : In case that lots of black smoke is discharged through muffler at accelerating, poor acceleration occurs or engine stalls. (DTC is displayed.)

Inspect poor acceleration symptom refer to "DTC troubleshooting procedures".

- Go to "CPF visual inspection" procedure.

Case 3 : In case that lots of black smoke is discharged through muffler at accelerating, poor acceleration occurs or engine stalls. (NO DTC)

Inspect poor acceleration symptom refer to "Poor acceleration" inspection of the "Symptom Analysis".

- Go to "CPF visual inspection" procedure.

Case 4 : In case that lots of white smoke is discharged through muffler at high speed driving. Also lots of white smoke is discharged intermittently.

If low quality diesel fuel (constituent of sulfur is above 50 ppm) is used and CPF temperature is higher than 600℃, Excessive aluminum sulfur is discharged by high chemical reaction. Do not inhale exhaust fumes.

If lots of white smoke is discharged when exhaust system temperature is high sufficiently or in the CPF regeneration mode or in the forcing CPF regeneration function, Replace all fuel and verify that the symptom is corrected.
