Description

If poor power occurs in the A/T vehicle, you can know that whether the cause of poor power is A/T slip or not (engine problem) by stall test. Also, you can give a load to the engine by stall test when vehicle does not driving.

- Do not test stall speed for more than 10 seconds at a time.

- Engage the parking brake, and block the front wheels.

Diagnostic procedure
Stall test method
1.

Be sure vehicle is parked on the safety place.

- Do not let anybody (danger materials) stand in front of (behind) the vehicle while this test is being carried out.

2.

Fix the handle to straight side, block the front (rear) wheels and engage the parking brake.

3.

IG KEY "ON", ENGINE "ON"

4.

Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.

5.

Press the brake pedal and move the selector lever P→R→ N→ D two or three times.

6.

Fully depress the brake pedal ,move the selector lever to the "D" position and pully depress the accelerator pedal.

7.

Monitor the maximum engine speed at this time.

- Do not test stall speed for more than 10 seconds at a time.

- If carrying out the stall test two or more times, move the selector lever to the "N" position and run the engine at 1,000 r/min to let the ATF cool down before carrying out subsequent test.

- Tucson(JM) 2.0D VGT : 2,800 ± 100 RPM

Stall test inspection

Case 1 : In case that stall rpm is too low. (DTC is displayed)

Poor power and poor acceleration of the engine, Monitor DTC. (Fuel injection can be limited by ECM because of DTC.)

Repair the problem, refer to "DTC troubleshooting procedures".

Case 2 : In case that stall rpm is too low. (DTC is not displayed)

The problem does not satisfy the detecting condition of DTC, mostly the cause of symptom would be intake system leakage, blocked exhaust system, abnormal EGR system, abnormal VGT system.

Repair the problem, refer to "poor acceleration symptom analysis" procedure.

Case 3 : In case that engine stalls while stall testing.

High pressure fuel system leakage problem. (fuel pressure is not increased by high pressure fuel system malfunction.)

Repair the problem, refer to "fuel system inspection of the engine stalls symptom analysis" procedure.

Case 4 : In case that stall rpm is too high.

Repair disc slipping in the automatic transaxle or torque converter.
