Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration,or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found?

YES

a.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

Go to " Steering angle sensor #2 Signal Inspection " procedure.

4.

Engine "ON".

5.

Connect TCCU, Steering angle sensor connector.

6.

Monitor signal waveform between terminal 4 of Steering angle sensor harness connector M14 and chassis ground.

7.

Turn steering Wheel to the right or left.

8.

Is Steering angle sensor #2 Signal display near the specified value?

YES

a.

Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor’s and/or TCCU’s connector or was repaired and TCCU memory was not cleared.Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

NO

a.

Go to " Steering angle sensor Reference voltage inspection " procedure.

Ignition "ON",Engine "OFF".

10.

TCCU, Steering angle sensor connector : Connect.

11.

Measure voltage between terminal 2 of Steering angle sensor harness connector M14 and chassis ground .

Specification : Approx. 12V

12.

Is voltage display near the specified value?

YES

a.

Go to " Steering angle sensor ground harness open circuit inspection " procedure.

NO

a.

Check for Steering angle sensor Reference harness.

b.

Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Ignition OFF

TCCU, Steering angle sensor connector : Connect.

15.

Measure resistance between terminal 3 of Steering angle sensor harness connector M14 and chassis ground .

a.

Specification : Approx. 1Ω below.

Is resistance display near the specified value?

YES

a.

Go to " Steering angle sensor #2 ,short to signal line ground Inspection " procedure.

NO

a.

Check for open circuit of Steering angle sensor ground harness.

b.

Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Ignition OFF

TCCU, Steering angle sensor connector : Disconnect.

19.

Measure resistance between terminal 4 of Steering angle sensor harness connector M14 and chassis ground .

Specification : Approx. ∞ Ω

Is resistance display near the specified value?

YES

a.

Go to " Steering angle sensor #2 signal line open Inspection " procedure.

NO

a.

Check for short to ground circuit of Steering angle sensor #2Signal circuit.

b.

Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Ignition OFF

TCCU, Steering angle sensor connector : Disconnect.

23.

Measure resistance between terminal 4 of Steering angle sensor harness connector M14 and terminal 24 of TCCU harness connector C258 .

Specification : Approx. 0 Ω

24.

Is resistance display near the specified value?

YES

a.

Substitute with a known-good TCCU or Steering angle sensor and check for proper operation.

If the problem is corrected, replace TCCU and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

NO

a.

Check for open circuit of Steering angle sensor #2 Signal circuit.

b.

Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
