Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness(es) and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.
Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.
Has a problem been found?
YES
Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
NO
Go to "Power Circuit Inspection" procedure.
Ignition "ON" & Engine "OFF".
Turn the steering wheel to the left or right.
Measure signal waveform between terminal "1,4,5" of the steering wheel angle sensor harness connector and chassis ground.
Specification : HIGH : 2.9±0.1V ~ 4.4±0.1V LOW : 1.2±0.1V ~ 2.1±0.1V
Is the measured voltage within specifications?
YES
Go to "Component Inspection" procedure.
NO
Check for open or short in steering wheel angle sensor harness between terminal "1,4,5" of the steering angle sensorr harness connector and terminal "39,40,8" of the HECU harness connector. Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of vehicle Repair" procedure.
If STN signal is HIGH on center position, Check for improper installation of steering angle sensor.
Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of vehicle Repair" procedure.
If OK, substitute with a known-good steering angle sensor and check for proper operation. If problem is corrected, replace steering angle sensor and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
