BASIC INSPECTION
Before performing the inspection of radiator cooling fan, make sure that the follwing items :
① Coolant level
② Engine coolant leakage through the radiator test
③ Water pump seal leakage with the belt
CHECK PROCEDURE
1. Radiator fan relay test (Normally-open type A)
① Remove the radiator fan relay and there should be the continuity between the terminal 1 and the terminal 2 when power and ground are connected to the terminal 5 and the terminal 3.
② There should be no continuity between the terminal 1 and the terminal 2 when power is disconnected.
2. Radiator fan motor test
① Disconnect the connector from the radiator fan motor.
② Test the motor by connecting battery power to the terminal 2 and ground to the terminal 1.
③ If the motor fails to run or does not run smoothly, replace the motor.
3. Coolant temperature guage test
① Disconnect the water temperature sensor after turning the ignition switch OFF
② The water temperature sensor terminal 2 grounds it with a jump wire
③ Turn the ignition switch ON and check the pointer of the coolant temperature guage starts moving toward the "H" mark.
- Check for open or short in the wire between the WTS terminal 2 and the coolant temperature gauge
- Check the fuse (10A) at the dash fuse box.
4. Thermostat test
① Replace the thermostat if it is open at the room temperature.
② Suspended the thermostat in a container of water and heat the water the temperature with the thermometer. Check the temperature at which the thermostat first opens, and at which it is fully open.
