Terminal and Connector Inspection
Check for Wiring Harness
1.

Check for damaged harness and terminals including rubber seals :

-. contact resistance, oxidation, corrosion, bent or broken terminals

-. harness connector connection, loose wires etc.

2.

Check for poor connection between ECM and component :

-. backed out terminal, improper mating, broken locks and poor terminal to wire connection

3.

ARE THE WIRES O.K ? & ARE THE CONNECTIONS O.K ?

YES

a.

Go to "Signal Circuit Inspection" procedure.

NO

a.

Repair as necessary and go to " Verification of Vehicle Repair " procedure

Signal Circuit Inspection
Problem Verification
1.

DTCs listed below are stored in the scan tool

P0190/C001_C002_C003

2.

Check items with the scan tool and the multimeter

① Wiring harness inspection

② Waveform from RPS

③ Sensor supply voltage from ECM

3.

Specification :

1)

Resitance : 4.64 ㏀ ± 5%

2)

Resitance : below 1 Ω for open in the wire

3)

Resitance : infinite for short to ground in the wire

4)

Voltage : below 0.5V for short to power in the wire

5)

Sensor supply voltage : Approx. 5V

note

Refer to the component and full circuit for connector configrations details

C001 : Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor - Low input
4.

Disconnect the RPS and then turn the ignition switch ON.

measure the voltage for the RPS terminal 1 and the RPS terminal 3

5.

IS THERE approx. 5V ?

YES

a.

Intermittent failure, system is O.K at this time.

b.

Check for poor connections or losse wire at the RPS and the ECM.

c.

Go to step 7

NO

a.

Repair short in the wire between the RPS terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 9/C230-2

b.

Repair short in the wire between the RPS terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 11/C230-2

c.

Repair as necessary for wiring harness or connector terminal

d.

Go to step 3

6.

Check the voltage at the ECM terminal 9/C230-2 after turning the ignition switch ON directly.

7.

IS THERE approx. 5V ?

YES

a.

Repair open or short in the wire between the RPS terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 9/C230-2.

b.

Repair open or short in the wire between the RPS terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 11/C230-2.

c.

Go to step 7

NO

a.

Replace a known - good ECM and recheck. If approx. 5V is checked, replace the ECM

b.

Go to step 5

8.

Check the ground condition for the ECM terminal 11/C230-2.

9.

IS THERE CONTINUITY ?

YES

a.

Intermittent failure, system is O.K at this time..

b.

Check for poor connections or losse wire at the RPS and the ECM

c.

Go to step 7

NO

a.

Repair open or short in the wire between the RPS terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 9/C230-2.

b.

Repair as necessary for wiring harness or connector terminal.

c.

Go to step 7

10.

Connect the scan tool to the data link connector(DLC) and start the engine

11.

Let it idle until the engine warm up to approx. 80℃(176℉)

12.

Fix the fuel pressure and fuel pressure regulator current data and check.

13.

IS THERE THE FUEL PRESSURE 220 ~ 320 bar OR BELOW 1.5V INDICATED ?

YES

a.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

Replace the RPS. For checking the RPS , Go to "Component Inspection" procedure

YES

a.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

C002 : Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor - High Input
14.

Disconnect the RPS and then turn the ignition switch ON.

measure the voltage for the RPS terminal 1 and the RPS terminal 3

15.

ARE THERE approx. 5V ?

YES

a.

Intermittent failure, system is O.K at this time.

b.

Check for poor connections or losse wire at the RPS and the ECM

c.

Go to step 5

NO

a.

Repair open or short in the wire between the RPS terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 9/C230-2.

b.

Repair open or short in the wire between the RPS terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 11/C230-2.

c.

Repair as necessary for wiring harness or connector terminal

d.

Go to step 3

16.

Check the voltage at the ECM terminal 9/C230-2 after turning the ignition switch ON directly.

17.

IS THERE approx. 5V ?

YES

a.

Repair open or short in the wire between the RPS terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 9/C230-2.

b.

Repair open or short in the wire between the RPS terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 11/C230-2.

c.

Go to step 5

NO

a.

Replace a known - good ECM and recheck. If approx. 5V is checked, replace the ECM

b.

Go to step 5

18.

Check the ground condition for the ECM terminal 11/C230-2.

19.

IS THERE CONTINUITY ?

YES

a.

Intermittent failure, system is O.K at this time.

b.

Check for poor connections or losse wire at the RPS and the ECM

c.

Go to step 7

NO

a.

Repair open or short in the wire between the RPS terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 11/C230-2.

b.

Repair as necessary for wiring harness or connector terminal

c.

Go to step 7

20.

Connect the scan tool to the data link connector(DLC) and start the engine

21.

Let it idle until the engine warm up to approx. 80℃(176℉)

22.

Fix the fuel pressure and fuel pressure regulator current data and check.

23.

IS THERE THE FUEL PRESSURE 220 ~ 320 bar OR BELOW 1.5V INDICATED ?

YES

a.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

Replace the RPS. For checking the RPS , Go to "Component Inspection" procedure

YES

a.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

C003 : Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor - General Error
note

In this DTC P0190/C003 case, P1527(Sensor supply voltage 2 malfunction) and P0220 (Fuel pressure sensor) may be detected together.

24.

Disconnect the RPS and then turn the ignition switch ON.

measure the voltage for the RPS terminal 1 and the RPS terminal 3

25.

IS THERE approx. 5 V ?

YES

a.

Intermittent failure, system is O.K at this time.

b.

Check for poor connections or losse wire at the RPS and the ECM

c.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

Repair open or short in the wire between the RPS terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 9/C230-2.

b.

Repair open or short in the wire between the RPS terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 11/C230-2.

c.

Repair as necessary for wiring harness or connector terminal

d.

Go to step 3

26.

Check the voltage at the ECM terminal 9/C230-2 after turning the ignition switch ON directly.

27.

IS THERE approx. 5V ?

YES

a.

Recheck open or short in the wire between the RPS terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 9/C230-2.

b.

Recheck open or short in the wire between the RPS terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 11/C230-2.

c.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

Replace a known - good ECM and recheck. If approx. 5V is checked, replace the ECM. Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure
