Terminal and Connector Inspection
Check for Wiring Harness
1.

Check for damaged harness and terminals including rubber seals :

(1)

contact resistance, oxidation, corrosion, bent or broken terminals

(2)

harness connector connection, loose wires etc.

2.

Check for poor connection between ECM and component :

backed out terminal, improper mating, broken locks and poor terminal to wire connection

3.

ARE THE WIRES O.K ? & ARE THE CONNECTIONS O.K ?

YES

a.

Go to "Signal Circuit Inspection" procedure

NO

a.

Repair as necessary and go to " Verification of Vehicle Repair " procedure.

Signal Circuit Inspection
Problem Verification
1.

DTCs listed below are stored in the scan tool

P1116/C001_C002_C003_C004

2.

Check items with the scan tool and the multimeter

(1)

Wiring harness inspection

(2)

Sensor supply voltage voltage from the ECM

(3)

Boost pressure current data

3.

Specification

1)

Resitance : below 1 Ω for open in the wire

2)

Resitance : infinite for short to ground in the wire

3)

Voltage : below 0.5V for short to power in the wire

4)

Reference voltage approx. 5V from ECM

note

Refer to the component and full circuit for connector configrations details

C001 : Boost pressure Sensor - Low Input
4.

Disconnect the boost presure sensor and turn the ignition switch ON

5.

Measure the voltage for the boost pressure sensor the terminal 1, the terminal 3, the terminal 4 individually.

6.

IS THERE 0V FOR THE TERMINAL 1 approx. 5V FOR THE TERMINAL 3 APRROXI. 0V FOR THE TERMINAL 4 ?

YES

a.

Intermittent failure, system is O.K at this time.

b.

Check for poor connections or losse wire at the boost pressure sensor and the ECM.

c.

Go to step 4

NO

a.

Repair open or short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 12/C230-2

b.

Repair open or short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 14/C230-2

c.

Repair open or short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 4 and the ECM terminal 13/C230-2

d.

Go to step 4

7.

Connect the scan tool to the data link connector(DLC) and start the engine.

8.

Fix the boost pressure sensor.

9.

Check the boost pressure current data with the scan tool

10.

IS THERE approx. 180 kPa INDICATED ?

YES

a.

Replace the boost pressure sensor

b.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

Recheck open or short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 12/C230-2.

b.

Recheck open or short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 4 and the ECM terminal 13/C230-2.

c.

Replace a known - good ECM and recheck. If the boost pressure readings are indicated, replace the ECM.

NO

a.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

C002 : Boost pressure Sensor - High Input
11.

Disconnect the boost presure sensor and turn the ignition switch ON

12.

Measure the voltage for the boost pressure sensor the terminal 1, the terminal 3, the terminal 4 individually.

13.

IS THERE 0V FOR THE TERMINAL 1 approx. 5V FOR THE TERMINAL 3 APRROXI. 0 V FOR THE TERMINAL 4 ?

YES

a.

Intermittent failure, system is O.K at this time.

b.

Check for poor connections or losse wire at the boost pressure sensor and the ECM.

c.

Go to step 4

NO

a.

Repair short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 12/C230-2.

b.

Repair short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 14/C230-2.

c.

Repair short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 4 and the ECM terminal 13/C230-2.

d.

Go to step 4

14.

Connect the scan tool to the data link connector(DLC) and start the engine.

15.

Fix the boost pressure sensor current data.

16.

Check the boost pressure current data with the scan tool

17.

IS THERE approx. 180 kPa INDICATED ?

YES

a.

Replace the boost pressure sensor

b.

Recheck short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 12/C230-2.

c.

Recheck short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 4 and the ECM terminal 14/C230-2.

d.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

Replace a known - good ECM and recheck. If the boost pressure readings are indicated, replace the ECM.

YES

a.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

C003 : Boost pressure Sensor - General Error
18.

Disconnect the boost pressure sensor and then turn the ignition switch ON.

Measure the voltage between the boost pressure sensor terminal 3 and the terminal 1.

19.

IS THERE approx. 5 V ?

YES

a.

Intermittent failure, system is O.K at this time.

b.

Check for poor connections or losse wire at the boost pressure sensor and the ECM.

NO

a.

Repair open or short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 12/C230-2.

b.

Repair open or short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 14/C230-2.

c.

Repair as necessary for wirng harness or connector terminal

d.

Go to step 3

20.

Measure the voltage between the ECM terminal 12/C230-2 and the ECM terminal 14/C230-2 directly after turning the ignition switch ON.

21.

IS THERE approx. 5 V ?

YES

a.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

Replace a known - good ECM and recheck. If approx. 5V is checked, replace the ECM

b.

Recheck open or short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 12/C230-2.

c.

Recheck open or short in the wire between the boost pressure sensor terminal 1 and the ECM terminal 14/C230-2.

d.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

C004 : Boost pressure Sensor - Range/ Performance
note

C 004 is detected if the following conditions is met :

If |actual boost pressure - barometric pressure| is above 140 hPa when the engine speed is below 210 rpm

When the C004 is detected repeatedly after clearing the DTC P1116 /C004, taking the below-listed check and inspection into consideration :

① Boost pressure and barometric pressure sensor

② CKP and CMP

③ Throttle flate device
