2.

Actual value for evaluation

Hold the engine at 3000 rpm with no load (in Park or Neutral) radiator fan comes on, then let it idle

3.

Check items with the scantool

Engine coolant temperature current data

4.

Specification

a.

Reference voltage approx. 5V

b.

Resistance value will be changed by the water temperature

☞ CURRENT DATA

IATS and ECTS signals should be smooth and continuous without any sudden changes. When the engine is cold, IATS and ECTS signals should look similar, depending on the coolant temperature. After warmed-up the IATS signal should not have changed less significantly while ECTS signal should have some dropped. This indicates the normal increase of the engine coolant temperature is larger than the normal increase of the intake air temperature as the engine warms up.

5.

IS ECTS SIGNAL DISPLAYED PROPERLY ?

YES

a.

Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor’s and/or ECM’s connector or was repaired and ECM memory was not cleared.

b.

Check for intermittent fault by observing the data parameter for a sudden change while wiggling the wiring and tapping lightly on the suspect component.

caution

Be careful not to damage wires or components during the test.

c.

Repair as necessary and go to " Verification of Vehicle Repair " procedure.

NO

a.

Go to " W/Harness Inspection " procedure
