The pretensioner (BPT) is located in the driver and passenger’s lower side center pillar (as shown in above picture) together with a seat belt retractor unit. The pretensioner seat belt helps to reduce the severity of injury to the front seat occupant by retracting the seat belt webbing. This prevents the occupant from thrusting forward and hitting the steering wheel(driver) or the instrument panel (passenger) during an accident.
When short or decreased resistance in the driver side pretensioner’s squib occurs. When the SRS warning light remains lit and a DTC code occurs, it means a short circuit or decreased resistance between the control module and Pretensioner harness.
Item | Detecting Condition | Possible Cause |
DTC Strategy | ● Driver Pretensioner short or decreased resistance | ● Poor contact in the connector or wiring harness. ● Open circuit in wiring harness. ● Open circuit in DBPT squib. |
Enable Conditions | ● Ignition "ON"
Threshold Value | ● Short circuit resistance < 1 kOhm
Diagnostic Time | Qualification | ● More than 2 sec remaining |
De-Qualification | ● More than10 sec remaining |
Test Condition | Resister (Ω) |
Ignition OFF | 1.9Ω ≤ R ≤ 4.7Ω |
