BASIC INSPECTION
Before performing the inspection of A/C relay, make sure that the follwing items :
① Refrigerant capacity
② Leaks or clog in the refrigerant lines
③ The coolant temperature through he scan tool (A/C system is not working in case of more than 120℃(248℉) of coolant temperature)
CHECK PROCEDURE
1. Relay test (Normally-open type A)
① Remove the radiator fan relay and there should be the continuity between the terminal 1 and the terminal 2 when power and ground are connected to the terminal 3 and the terminal 5.
② There should be no continuity between the terminal 1 and the terminal 2 when power is disconnected.
2. A/C circuit with the relay check
① Remove the A/C relay and connect the terminal 1 to the terminal 2 with a jump wire.
- Check for open or short in the wire between the A/C relay terminal and compressor terminal
- If the compressor clutch does not make noise, when connecting the battery voltage to to the compressor terminal directly, replace the A/C compressor.
② Go to " DTC 1616 Main relay - MAL ,unless the terminal 5 is find the battery voltage during the engine running.
③ If the A/C compressor clutch is not operated after turning the A/C switch ON and the blower switch ON, check as follows :
- Check the battery voltage from the ECM terminal 51/230-1
- Repair open or short in the wire between the triple switch terminal 2 and the ECM terminal 51/230-1.
④ If there is no find the battery voltage at the ECM terminal 51/230-1, check the triple switch as follows :
- Check the battery voltage at the triple switch at the terminal 2 and terminal 3 after turning the A/C switch ON and the blower switch ON
- Check the battery voltage from the triple switch terminal 1 and terminal 2
3. ECM function in the A/C system
① Low and High pressure switch for the compressor control
② Medium pressure switch for the condensor fan control

READING SCAN TOOL DATA
① Normal condition when turning the A/C switch and the blower switch
- A/C switch : ON, A/C relay : ON, A/C medium switch : OFF
② Abnormal condition when turning the A/C switch and the blower switch
- A/C switch : OFF (No signal to ECM), A/C relay : OFF (No relay operation from ECM)
- A/C medium switch : ON (Condensor fan working -> medium switch ON)
4. A/C and blower switch including the thermistor check
① If there is no find the battery voltage at the triple switch terminal 1 after turning the A/C switch ON and the blower switch ON, check the battery voltage at the thermistor terminal 2 and terminal 3.
② If there is no find the battery voltage at the triple switch terminal 3, check the Heater and the A/C control pannel assembly.
