Terminal and Connector Inspection
Check for Wiring Harness
1.

Check for damaged harness and terminals including rubber seals :

-. contact resistance, oxidation, corrosion, bent or broken terminals

-. harness connector connection, loose wires etc.

2.

Check for poor connection between ECM and component :

-. backed out terminal, improper mating, broken locks and poor terminal to wire connection

3.

NO

a.

Go to step 4

7.

Connect the scan tool to the data link connector(DLC) and turn the ignition switch ON.

8.

Fix the fuel pressure and fuel pump relay current data.

9.

Check the current data when turning the ignition switch ON

10.

ARE THE FUEL PRESSURE AND THE FUEL PUMP REALY ON CURRENT DATA PROPERLY DISPLAYED ?

YES

a.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

Replace the relay if the relay is defective after checking the continuity between the relay terminal 3 and terminal 5 For more detailed information, Go to "Component Inspection" procedure

b.

Recheck open or short in the wire between the fuel pump relay terminal 3 and the ECM terminal 17/C230-1.

c.

Go to step 8

CURRENT DATA ANALYSIS

The fuel pressure should be increased above 3.5 bar for 3 sec. when turning the ignition switch ON. Fuel pressure idle set value shoul be displayed appoxi. 220 ~ 300 bar (around 1V) while idling and changes on acceleration.Fuel pump relay should be displayed ON when craking and running the engine.

11.

Check the fuel pump operation at the ECM terminal 17/C230-1 when turning the ignition switch ON.

12.

IS THERE FUEL PUMP ON FOR 3 SECONDS ?

YES

a.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

Go to step 10

13.

Connect the CH A,B probe of scan tool to the ECM terminal 17/C230-1 and the relay terminal 2 in order to check the signal waveform.

14.

Check the signal waveform when turning the ignition switch OFF and ON several times.

15.

IS THERE THE SIGNAL WAVEFORM PROPERLY DISPLAYED ?

YES

a.

Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

Replace a known - good ECM and recheck. If the signal waveform is displayed, replace the ECM.

WAVEFORM ANALYSIS

This test should be inspected after depressing the HOLD mode after turning the ignition switch ON. When the ground is connected to the terminal 17/C230-1 by the ECM the battery voltage is supplied to the electric fuel pump through the relay terminal 2. If the waveform pattern is not indicated as above waveform, replace the relay.
