The pretensioner (BPT) is located in the driver and passenger’s lower side center pillar (as shown in above picture) together with a seat belt retractor unit. The pretensioner seat belt helps to reduce the severity of injury to the front seat occupant by retracting the seat belt webbing. This prevents the occupant from thrusting forward and hitting the steering wheel(driver) or the instrument panel (passenger) during an accident.
When open or increased resistance in the driver side pretensioner’s squib occurs. When the SRS warning light remains lit and a DTC code has occurred, this means an open circuit or increased resistance between the control module and Pretensioner harness.
