Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found?

YES

a.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure .

NO

a.

Go to " Power Circuit Inspection " procedure.

Power Supply Circuit Inspection
1.

Ignition "OFF"

2.

Disconnect SMARTRA connector

3.

Ignition "ON" & Engine "OFF"

4.

Measure voltage between terminal 4 of the SMARTRA harness connector and chassis ground

a.

Specification : B+

5.

Is the measured voltage within specifications ?

YES

a.

Go to "Signal Circuit Inspection" procedure

NO

a.

Check open or short in power harness

b.

Check that sensor fuse 10A located between Control relay and Smartra is open or blown off

c.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Signal Circuit Inspection
Check for Short in Harness
1.

Ignition "OFF"

2.

Disconnect SMARTRA connector

3.

Ignition "ON" & Engine "OFF"

4.

Measure voltage between terminal 5 of the SMARTRA harness connector and chassis ground.

a.

Specification : Approx. 6.0V

5.

Is the measured voltage within specifications ?

YES

a.

Go to "Check for open in harness" as below

NO

a.

Check short in signal harness

b.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Check for Open in Harness
6.

Ignition "OFF"

7.

Disconnect SMARTRA connector

8.

Measure resistance between terminal 5 of the SMARTRA harness connector and terminal 52 of PCM harness connector

a.

Specification : Approx. below 1Ω

9.

Is the measured resistance within specifications ?

YES

a.

Go to "Ground Circuit Inspection" procedure

NO

a.

Check for open in signal harness

b.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Ground Circuit inspection
Check for Open in Harness between SMARTRA and PCM
1.

Ignition "OFF"

2.

Disconnect SMARTRA connector

3.

Measure resistance between terminal 3 of the SMARTRA harness connector and terminal 61 of PCM harness connector

a.

Specification : Approx. below 1Ω

4.

Is the measured resistance within specifications ?

YES

a.

Go to "Check for open in harness between PCM and Chassis ground" as below

NO

a.

Check for open in ground harness

b.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Check for open in Harness between PCM and Chassis Ground
5.

Ignition "OFF"

6.

Disconnect SMARTRA connector

7.

Measure resistance between terminal 61 of PCM harness connector and chassis ground(G16)

a.

Specification : Approx. below 1Ω

8.

Is the measured resistance within specifications ?

YES

a.

Go to "Component Inspection" procedure.

NO

a.

Check for open in ground harness

b.

Make sure that Chassis ground G16 is firmly tightened properly

c.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
