Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found?

YES

a.

Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

Go to "Signal Circuit Inspection" procedure

Signal Circuit Inspection
1.

Disconnect "K/D SWITCH" connector.

2.

IGNITION "ON", ENGINE "OFF"

3.

Measure voltage between teminal "1" of the sensor harness connector and chassis ground.

a.

Specification: Approx.12V

4.

Is voltage within specifications?

YES

a.

Go to "Component Inspection" procedure

NO

a.

Check for open or short in harness. Repair as necessary and Go to "Verification Vehicle Repair" procedure

b.

If signal circuit in harness is OK, Substitute with a known-good TCM/PCM and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace PCM/TCM as necessary and go to "Verification Vehicle Repair" procedure.
