The ECTS is located in the engine coolant passage. It detects the coolant temperature and sends to the ECM. It has a thermistor which is sensitive to change according to the coolant temperature. The electric resistance of a thermistor decreases in response to temperature rise.
The ECM uses this information to control the injection quantity and fan operation.
Remove the ECTS from the engine coolant passage.
With the temperature sensing portion of the ECTS immersed in hot engine coolant, check the resistance.(Refer to "SPECIFICATION")
If the resistance deviates from the standard value greatly, replace the sensor.
