Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness(s) and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Check the following conditions:

(1)

Check for damaged harness and terminals: contact resistance, oxidation, bent or broken terminals.

(2)

Check for poor connection between ECM and component: backed out terminal, improper mating, broken locks or poor terminal to wire connection

caution

Use a suitable male pin to ensure that contact in sockets is good. The pin should remain in position when pulled gently.

3.

Has a problem been found?

YES

a.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

NO

a.

System OK. Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

Circuit Inspection
Open Circuit Inspection for Accerelation Signal Line
4.

Turn ignition switch to OFF and disconnect Acceleration sensor connector.

5.

Turn ignition switch to ON

6.

Measure voltage of Acceleration sensor signal circuit between Acceleration sensor harness connector and ECM harness connector.

7.

Probe(+) : Acceleration sensor harness connector NO3.

Probe(-) : Chassis ground.

a.

Specification: approximateiy 5V

8.

Is the voltage within specification?

YES

a.

Go to "OPEN CIRCUIT INSPECTION FOR GROUND LINE"

NO

a.

Open circuit or short circuit to chassis ground between Acceleration sensor harness connector and signal circuit

b.

Open circuit between Acceleration sensor harness connector and ECM harness connector

c.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair"

caution

1.In case,when accerelation sensor connector is disconnected,the voltage at terminal 3 is 0V.

▶Possible cause: Open or short circuit in harness between terminal 60 of ECM and terminal 3 of acceleration sensor or ECM.

9.

Turn ignition switch to OFF and disconnect Acceleration sensor connector and TPS connector.

10.

Turn ignition switch to ON

11.

Measure voltage or resistance of Acceleration sensor ground circuit between Acceleration sensor harness connector and ECM harness connector.

12.

Probe(+) : Acceleration sensor harness connector NO2.

Probe(-) : Chassis ground.

a.

Specification: below 0.5V,below 1Ω

13.

Is the voltage and resistance within specification?

YES

a.

Go to "SHORT CIRCUIT INSPECTION BETWEEN POWER AND SIGNAL LINE"

NO

a.

Open circuit between Acceleration sensor harness connector and ECM harness connector

b.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair"

caution

1.In case,when accerelation sensor connector is disconnected,the resistance at terminal 2 is infinite.

▶Possible cause: Open in ground circuit between terminal 17 of ECM and terminal 2 of accerelation sensor.

Short Circuit Inspection Between Power and Signal Line
14.

Turn ignition switch to OFF and disconnect Acceleration sensor connector and ECM harness connector.

15.

Measure resistance between reference voltage(5V) circuit and signal circuit.

16.

Probe(+) : Acceleration sensor harness connector NO3.

Probe(-) : Acceleration sensor harness connector NO1.

a.

Specification: infinite

17.

Is the resistance within specification?

YES

a.

Temporarily install a known good Acceleration sensor and check for proper operation

b.

If problem is corrected, replace Acceleration sensor

NO

a.

Short circuit between reference voltage(5V) circuit and signal circuit

b.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair"

caution

1.When the terminal 1 and 3 are shorted ,the resistance measured is below 1Ω.
