Remove the console.

Loosen the adjusting nut and detach the parking brake cable.

Detach the parking brake switch assembly.

Remove the parking brake lever assembly.

Remove the rear wheel.

Remove the brake drum.

Remove the rear hub assembly.

Remove the brake shoe.

Disconnect the parking brake cable from the brake shoe operating lever.

Remove the parking brake cable retaining ring in the rear of the backing plate.

Loosen the parking brake cable clamp and remove the parking brake cable assembly.

Remove the console.(Refer to body group-console.)

Loosen the adjusting nut (A) and the parking brake cables.

Disconnect the connector (A) of parking brake switch.

Remove the parking brake lever assembly (A) with loosening the bolts (B).

Remove the wheel and tire.

Remove the brake disc(A).

Remove the rear hub unit bearing(A).

Remove the shoe hold down pin (A) and the spring (B) by pushing the retainer spring and turning the pin.

Remove the adjuster assembly (A) and the return spring (B).

Remove the parking brake cable (B) from the brake shoe (A).

Remove the strut (A) and the strut spring (B).

Remove the brake shoe.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Be sure the outer diameter of shoe is within the specified values and install the drum.

When pulling up the point where is at a distance of 25mm (0.98 in.) from the end of the lever with a force of 20 kgf, adjust the adjusting nut to the lever assembly so that lever is fixed to 6~8 notches.

Install the brake shoe(A) to the backing plate(B).

Install the shoe hold down pin(C) and the spring(D) by pushing the retainer spring (D) and turning the pins.

After installing the strut(C) and upper return spring(D), install the adjuster assembly(B) and the lower return spring(C).

Apply a coating of the specified grease to each sliding parts of parking brake as shown.

Install the rear brake disc/drum and rear brake caliper.

After installing the cable adjuster, adjust the parking brake lever stroke (see page BR-46).

Check the parking brake switch operation.

Check the parking brake lever ratchet for wear.

Check the parking brake cable for wear or damage.

Pull the parking brake lever (A) with 196 N (20 kg, 44lbf) force to fully apply the parking brake. The parking brake lever should be locked within the specified number of clicks (B).

Adjust the parking brake if the lever clicks are out of specification.

Lift the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.

Remove the rear tire and wheel.

Remove the plug from the disc.

Turn the adjusting wheel in arrow direction as shown until the disc won’t be rotated by tangential force of 29.4N(3kgf, 6.6Ib) using the (-)screw driver (A). Then turn back the adjusting wheel by 5 notches

Install the rear tire and wheel after installing the plug.

Depress the brake pedal more then 20 times by tangential force of 98N(10kgf, 22Ib) to set the self-adjusting brake.

Lift the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.

Remove the floor console. (Refer to BD Gr. - "Floor console")

After the full stroke operation of the brake lever over 3 times for setting the cable, the travel must be between 6~8 notches when applying a force of 196N(20kgf, 44Ib) at 40mm from the end of lever assembly (excluding button) by adjusting nut (A).

Release the parking brake lever fully, and check that parking brakes do not drag when the rear wheels are turned. Readjust if necessary.

Make sure that the parking brakes are fully applied when the parking brake lever is pulled up fully.

Parking indicator lamp must be “OFF”when the lever assembly is released. It must be “ON” when the lever assembly is operated by 1 notch.

Install the floor console. (Refer to BD Gr. - "Floor console")
