Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness(s) and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Check the following conditions:

(1)

Check for damaged harness and terminals: contact resistance, oxidation, bent or broken terminals.

(2)

Check for poor connection between ECM and component: backed out terminal, improper mating, broken locks or poor terminal to wire connection

caution

Use a suitable male pin to ensure that contact in sockets is good. The pin should remain in position when pulled gently.

3.

Has a problem been found?

YES

System Inspection
Fuel Pressure Inspection
4.

Reduce the internal pressure of the fuel pipe and hoses and cover the hose connection with a shop towel to prevent splashing of fuel.

5.

Remove the bolt connecting the fuel line to the fuel delivery pipe.

6.

Using the fuel pressure gauge adaptor, install the fuel pressure gauge to the fuel pressure gauge adaptor.

7.

Apply battery voltage to the terminal for the pump drive and activate the fuel pump:then, with fuel pressure applied, check fuel leakage from the pressure gauge or connection part.

8.

Start an engine and warm up to operating temperature.

9.

Check for fuel pressure at idle.

a.

Specification

Fuel pressure at idle : 51 psi(350kPa),3.5kg/㎠

10.

Is fuel pressure within specification?

YES

a.

Go to "Exhaust system Inspection"

NO

a.

Check fuel delivery system

b.

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

Exhaust system Inspection

Check exhaust system for leaks, cracks, loose connection.(especially exhaust manifold, catalyst around rear HO2S, etc)

a.

Is exhaust system okay?

YES

Go to "intake system Inspection"

NO

Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Intake system Inspection

Check intake system for leaks, cracks, loose connection as follwing items :

11.

Throttle body gasket.

12.

Gasket between intake manifold and surge tank.

13.

Seals between intake manifold and fuel injectors.

14.

Seals between surge tank and PCV valves..

a.
