REMOVAL
caution

Use a cover not to damage the vehicle surface.

Disconnect connectors carefully not to be damaged.

note

Mark wires or hoses for identification.

1.

Remove the engine cover. (refer to Engine and transaxle assembly in EM group)

2.

Remove the battery (A).

3.

Remove the air duct (A).

4.

Remove the air cleaner assembly (B) by loosening the clamp bolt (C) and the clips and removing the two mounting bolts after disconnecting the AFS connector (A).

5.

Remove the battery tray (A).

6.

Remove the bracket (A) by removing the two bolts.

7.

Remove the ground (A).

8.

Disconnect the inhibiter switch connector (A), the solenoid valve connector (B) and the input speed sensor connector (C).

9.

Disconnect the output speed sensor connector (A) and the vehicle speed sensor connector (B).

10.

Remove the control cable assembly(C) by removing the nut (A) and clip (B).

11.

Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler hoses (B) from the tubes by loosening the clamps (A).

12.

Remove the transaxle mounting bolts (A-3ea, B-2ea).

13.

Remove the starter motor. (refer to Starter in EE group)

14.

Using the special tool(09200-38001), hold the engine and transaxle assembly safely.

15.

Remove the transaxle supporting bracket mounting bolts (A-4ea, B-1ea).

16.

Remove the front wheels.

17.

Lift up the vehicle.

18.

Remove the under cover (A, B).

19.

Remove the power steering column joint bolt (A).

20.

Drain the transaxle fluid by removing the oil drain plug.

21.

Drain power steering fluid through the return tube(B) by loosening the clamp (A).

22.

Disconnect the power steering pressure tube (A) from the power steering oil pump.

23.

Disconnect the lower arm, the tie rod end ball joint, the stabilizer bar link from the front knuckle. (refer to Front suspension in SS group)

24.

Remove the roll stopper mounting bolts (A, B).

25.

Remove the mounting bolts from the sub frame by supporting the sub frame by using the special tool(09624-38000). (refer to Front suspension in SS group)

26.

Remove drive shaft(A) from transaxle. (refer to Driveshaft in DS group).

27.

Remove the intercooler tube (A) by loosening the clamps and the two bolts.

28.

Remove the drive plate bolts (A-6ea) rotating the crankshaft bolt.

29.

Remove the transaxle mounting bolts (A-2ea, B-4ea).

30.

Lifting the vehicle up and lowering the jack slowly, remove the transaxle assembly.

INSTALLATION

Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

Perform the following :

Adjust the shift cable.

Refill the transaxle with fluid.

Refill the radiator with engine coolant.

Bleed air from the cooling system with the heater valve open.

Clean the battery posts and cable terminals with sandpaper, assemble them, and apply grease to prevent corrosion.

Lowering the vehicle or lifting up a jack, install the transaxle assembly.

2.

Tighten the transaxle mounting bolts (A-2ea, B-4ea).

TORQUE:

[A] 65~85 Nm(6.5~8.5 kgf.m, 47.0~61.5 lb-ft)

[B] 30~42 Nm(3.0~4.2 kgf.m, 21.7~30.4 lb-ft)

3.

Install the drive plate bolts (A-6ea) while turning the crankshaft bolt.

TORQUE:

46~53 Nm(4.6~5.3 kgf.m, 33.3~38.3 lb-ft)

4.

After removing a jack, insert the drive shafts (A). (refer to Driveshaft in DS group)

5.

Install the intercooler tube (A) by fastening the clamps and the two bolts.

6.

Install the sub frame supported by the special tool(09624-38000). (refer to Front suspension in SS group)

7.

Tighten the roll stopper mounting bolts (A, B).

TORQUE:

50~65 Nm(5.0~6.5 kgf.m, 36.2~47.0 lb-ft)

8.

Connect the lower arm, the tie rod end ball joint, the stabilizer bar link to the front knuckle. (refer to Front suspension in SS group)

9.

Connect the return tube(A) with a clamp.

10.

Install the steering column joint bolt (A).

11.

Install the under cover (A, B).

12.

Install the front wheels and tires.

13.

Tighten the transaxle supporting bracket mounting bolts (A-4ea, B-1ea).

TORQUE:

60~80 Nm(6~8 kgf.m, 43.4~57.8 lb-ft)

14.

Remove the special tool (09200-38001) holding the engine and transaxle assembly.

15.

Tighten the transaxle mounting bolts (A-3ea, B-2ea).

TORQUE:

65~85 Nm(6.5~8.5 kgf.m, 47.0~61.5 lb-ft)

16.

Connect the power steering pressure tube (A) to the power steering oil pump.

TORQUE:

55~65 Nm(5.5~6.5 kgf.m, 39.8~47.0 lb-ft)

17.

Install the starter motor. (refer to Srarter in EE group)

18.

Connect the transaxle oil cooler hoses (A) to the tubes by fastening the clamps (B).

19.

Install the control cable assembly(C) by tightening the nut (A) and clip (B).

TORQUE:

8~12 Nm(0.8~1.2 kgf.m, 5.8~8.7 lb-ft)

20.

Connect the inhibiter switch connector (A), the solenoid valve connector (B) and the input speed sensor connector (C).

21.

Connect the output speed sensor connector (A) and the vehicle speed sensor connector (B).

22.

Install the ground (A).

23.

Install the bracket by installing in two bolts (A).

24.

Install the battery tray (A) by tightening the four mounting bolts.

25.

Install the air cleaner assembly (C) by fastening the clamp bolt (B) and the clips and installing the three mounting bolts.

26.

Connect the AFS connector (A).

27.

Install the air duct (A).

28.

Install the battery (A).

29.

Refill the transaxle fluid. (refer to 'Service adjustment procedure')

30.

Refill the power steering fluid and bleed the air. (refer to Service adjustment procedure in ST group)

31.

Install the engine cover. (refer to Engine and transaxle assembly in EM group)

note

When replacing the automatic transaxle, reset the automatic transaxle's values by using the High- Scan Pro.

Connect the Hi-Scan Pro connector to the data link connector under the crash pad and power cable to the cigar jack under the center facia.

Turn the ignition switch on and power on the Hi-Scan Pro.

Select the vehicle's name.

Select 'AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE'.

Select 'RESETTING AUTO T/A VALUES' and perform the procedure.

Perform the procedure by pressing F1 (REST).
