The EPB is the acronym for Electric Parking Brake system. Instead of using pedal or lever, using switch can apply parking brake. Drive controls switch → switch signal to ECU → ECU activate actuator → parking brake Apply/Release. When EPB switch is pulled, parking brake gets Applied. When EPB switch is pushed down, parking brake is released.
EPB ECU sets DTC if EPB switch circuit or wiring has problem.
Item | Detecting Condition | Possible Cause |
DTC Strategy |
•
Switch signal monitoring | 1. EPB switch cirucit open/short circuit 2. Faulty EPB switch 3. Driver abnormal switch control (too much activation, pull or push for long time or slowly push/pull switch) |
Enable conditions |
•
EPB is awake, battery voltage is in normal range
Threshold value |
•
Switch signal is abnormal for more than 2seconds
•
Switch is disconnected for more than 2seconds
•
Switch signal is apply or relase for more than 90 seconds (For apply, vehicle has to be stationary)
Fail Safe |
•
EPB function using switch inhibited |
