Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals.

Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check all connectors (and connections) for looseness, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, and/or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found ?

▶ Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to "CAN communication circuit inspection" procedure.

■ Check open/short to ground in CAN communication line
1.

Ignition "OFF"

2.

Disconnect EPS(MDPS) connector and VDC connector

3.

Measure the resistance between CAN-HIGH terminal of EPS(MDPS) harness connector and CAN-HIGH terminal of VDC harness connector.

4.

Measure the resistance between CAN-LOW terminal of EPS(MDPS) harness connector and CAN-LOW terminal of VDC harness connector.

Specification : below 1Ω

5.

Is the measured resistance within specification ?

▶ Check EPS(MDPS), and ABS(VDC) connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to next procedure.

▶ Check for open/short in harness.

▶ Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

■ CAN register and communication line inspection 2
6.

IG KEY OFF.

7.

Disconnect ECM/PCM connector and Cluster connector.

8.

Measure resistance between terminal CAN Low and CAN High of ECM/PCM.

9.

Is the measured resistance within specification ?

▶ Go to next procedure

▶ Substitute with a known-good "ECM/PCM, Cluster" and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace "ECM/PCM, Cluster" and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

CAN Communication line check
■ Check short to battery in CAN communication line.
1.

IG KEY OFF

2.

Disconnect ECM/PCM, TCM and ESP(VDC) connector.

3.

IG KEY ON

4.

Measure voltage between CAN high terminal(# 3) of diagnostic connector and chassis ground.

5.

Measure voltage between CAN low terminal(#11) of diagnostic connector and chassis ground.

Specification : About 0V

■ Check short to ground in CAN communication line
6.

IG KEY OFF.

7.

Disconnect ECM/PCM, TCM and ESP(VDC) connector.

8.

Measure resistnace between CAN high terminal (# 3) of diagnostic connector and chassis ground.

9.

Measure resistance between CAN low terminal (# 11) of diagnostic connector and chassis ground.

Specification : ∞ Ω

10.

Is the measured resistance within specification ?

▶ Check ECM/PCM, TCM and ESP(VDC) connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Check short to battery in communication line. And then, go to 'Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
