BATTERY
Battery voltage inspection by cranking
1.

Charge the battery fully.

☞ After charging, if charging current is over 3A after 10 minutes, battery would be bad. If battery is not good, battery is needed high charging current continuously.

2.

Remove "START RELAY" for engine "STOP".

3.

Connect the proves of voltmeter to battery (+) terminal and (-) terminal .

4.

Measure the voltage while continuously repeating to change from IG key "START" to "OFF" 10 times.(refer to Fig.1)

■ Specification : More than 9.8V

Fig.1) The time chart of cranking while repeating 10 times

5.

Is the measured voltage value normal ?

▶ Go to "Dark current inspection" procedure as below.

▶ Check the connection state of battery (-) cable ground.

▶ Replace the battery.

Dark current inspection
6.

Connect the (+) probe of ampere meter to "BATTERY" (-) cable, and the (-) probe of ampere meter to "BATTERY" (-) terminal.

7.

Disconnect "BATTERY" (-) cable from "BATTERY" (-) terminal.

8.

After 10~20 minutes, check the measured dark current.

■ Reference value : Below 50 ㎃

Fig.1) Measure the dark current : For more accurate measuring of the dark current, perform the following items.

① Remove the ignition key.

② When disconnecting "BATTERY" (-) cable, make sure of interlinking continuously each the ampere meter probes with "BATTERY" (-) cable and "BATTERY" (-) terminal to prevent that vehicle system can be initialized.

③ Turn off all electric devices such as head lamp, audio etc.

④ Let hood switch keep in "OFF" and close all doors including trunk. 30 seconds after that, measure the dark current.

⑤ Do not open/close doors while measuring.

9.

Is the measured dark current within specification?

▶ The dark current is OK.

▶ If the measured value is over threshold(50mA), find out which part has the problem by removing the fuse one by one.

▶ Find out the cause of the problem refer to ETM.
