LKAS is an abbreviation of Lane Keeping Assist System. LKAS is a device that maintains the vehicle within a lane by detecting the lane via a camera, calculating the vehicle position and the steering force required to lead the vehicle into a safe zone, and controlling MDPS with the calculated results. The system consists of a LKAS unit, cluster, MDPS and On/Off power switch. The main components of the device are CMOS Image Sensor (CIS), Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and Micro Control Unit (MCU; CPU).
During its operation, LKAS continues analysis of the image patterns captured. If the calculated value is different from what is expected, LKAS regards it as a camera hardware fault, generating the fault code C1361 and turning on the Malfunction Indicator Lamp.
