REMOVAL
1.

Remove the wheel and tire.

2.

Remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolts.

3.

Remove the upper arm and rear carrier mounting bolt.

4.

Remove the shock absorber mounting bracket.

DISASSEMBLY
1.

Using the Special Tools (J38402, A - 20 ), compress the coil spring until there is only a little tension on the strut.

note

Do not use an impact gun.

2.

Remove the self-locking nut at the top end of the shock absorber.

3.

Remove the shock absorber mounting bracket, dust cover, spring upper pad.

4.

Remove the special tool, and then remove the coil spring.

DISPOSAL
1.

Fully extend the shock absorber rod.

2.

Drill a hole to remove gas from the cylinder.

caution

The gas coming out is harmless, but be careful of chips that may fly up when drilling. Be sure to use face shield and safety goggles.

INSPECTION
1.

Check the rubber parts for damage or deterioration.

2.

Check the spring for correct height deformation, deterioration or damage.

3.

Check the shock absorber for abnormal resistance or unusual sounds.

note

When discarding gas pressurized shock absorber, follow the disposal procedure.

REASSEMBLY
1.

Install the special tools, (J38402, A - 20), spring compressor, on the coil spring and compress the spring. After spring is fully compressed, installit on the shock absorber.

1.

Do not use an impact gun.

2.

Coil spring installation chart to load classification.

2.

Install the dust cover, upper spring pad, shock absorber mounting bracket, washer in this order and tighten the new self-locking nut temporarily.

3.

Position the upper and lower ends of the coil spring in the upper spring pad and lower spring seat grooves correctly.

caution
1.

Install so that the upper spring pad is fit in the shock absorber mounting bracket correctly.

2.

Install so that the spring urethane tube is located down.

4.

When the position of the bracket assembly is as shown in the illustration, tighten the new self-locking nut.

5.

Remove the special tool.

6.

Tighten the new self-locking nut to the specified torque.

Tightening torque

Piston rod to bracket nut :

20-25 Nm (200-250 kg·cm, 15-18 lb·t)
