General Description

If clutch S/W signal is ON, this signal is sent to ECM which monitors cltuch operation. That is used to monitor driving and shifting. ECM starts engine by controlling starter relay if clutch signal is ON at idle stop.

DTC Description

ECM sets DTC P0704 in case that the gear shifting signal is inputted more than 20 times but clutch signal is less than 2 times while vehicle is driving higher than 50km/h. The idle stop does not perform if P0704 is set.

Diagnostic Circuit Diagram
Monitor GDS Data
1.

Connect GDS to DLC(Data Link Cable).

2.

Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.

3.

Monitor "Clutch Switch" parameter on GDS.

4.

Is the "Clutch Switch" parameter displayed correctly?

▶ Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor’s and/or ECM’s connector or was repaired and ECM memory was not cleared. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, ending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

▶ Go to "Terminal & Connector Inspection" procedure.

Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals.

Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found?

▶ Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to " Circuit Inspection " procedure.

Circuit Inspection
■ Check Open or Short in power circuit
1.

IG KEY "OFF".

2.

Disconnect Clutch Switch connector.

3.

IG KEY "ON"

4.

Measure the voltage between Signal, Ground terminal of Clutch Switch harness connector and chassis ground.

Specification : Signal Terminal Approx. 11V

Ground Terminal Approx. 0V

5.

Is the measured voltage within specification ?

▶ Go to "Component inspection" procedure.

▶ Repair Open or Short in Clutch Switch circuit, and go to " Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Component Inspection
■ Visual Inspecton
1.

Repair if the clutch pedal and switch is abnormally installed.

■ Check Clutch Switch
2.

IG KEY "OFF".

3.

Disconnect Clutch Switch connector.

4.

Check continuity between clutch switch component signal terminal and Ground terminal as depressing clutch pedal.

Specification : Clutch pedal depressed : Continuity ( below 1.0Ω )

Clutch pedal released : Discontinuity ( Infinite Ω )

5.

Is the measured resistance within the specification?

▶ Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness(es) and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage. So, check poor connections and the related circuit between ECM and component thoroughly. Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Substitute with a known - good Clutch Switch and check for proper operation.

If the problem is corrected, replace Clutch Switch and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Verification of Vehicle Repair

After a repair, it is essential to verifying that the fault has been corrected.

1.

Connect GDS and select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes(DTCs)" mode.

2.

Using GDS, Clear DTC.

3.

Operate the vehicle within DTC Enable conditions in General information.

4.

Are any DTCs present ?

▶ Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure.

▶ System is performing to specification at this time.
