Component Inspection
■Check VSCA link device operation
1.

IG key OFF.

2.

Wait for approx. 16 sec. and check that main relay turns OFF.

3.

Disconnect VSCA connector.

4.

Pressing variable swirl control actuator link with hands, check if shaft stuck, tightness or problem of link device is detected.

Specification : VSCA link device should move smoothly.

■ Check VSCA motor coil resistance
5.

IG key OFF.

6.

Disconnect VSCA connector.

7.

Check resistance between 'Motor (+)' terminal and 'Motor (-)' terminal of VSCA connector. (VSCA component side)

Specification : 3.43 Ω ~ 4.37 Ω (20℃)

8.

Does VSCA move slowly and Is the measured resistance within the specification?

▶ Go to "Check VSCA position sensor resistance" as follows.

▶ Replace VSCA (Intake manifold assembly) and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair".

■ Check VSCA position sensor resistance
9.

IG key OFF.

10.

Disconnect VSCA connector.

11.

Check resistance between 'F/B supply' terminal and 'F/B ground' terminal of VSCA connector. (VSCA component side)

Specification : 3.01 kΩ ~ 5.59 kΩ (20℃)

12.

Is the measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "Check VSCA position sensor resistance" as follows.

▶ Replace VSCA (Intake manifold assembly) and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair".

■ VSCA motor waveform inspection
13.

Connect VSCA connector.

14.

Connect one prove of oscilloscope to 'Motor (+)' terminal of VSCA connector. (VSCA component side)

15.

Connect another prove of oscilloscope to 'Motor (-)' terminal of VSCA connector. (VSCA component side)

16.

Engine ON.

17.

Monitor the signal waveform at idle and during acceleration.

Reference signal waveform

Fig. 1) Signal waveform when variable swirl valve closed at idle.

Fig. 2) Signal waveform when variable swirl valve opened at acceleration.

■ VSCA position sensor waveform inspection
18.

Connect one prove of oscilloscope to 'F/B signal' terminal of VSCA connector. (VSCA component side)

19.

Turn IG key OFF at engine coolant is over 70℃.

20.

Monitor the signal waveform.

Reference signal waveform

Fig. 3) Signal waveform of variable swirl control actuator motor position sensor at the point of turning engine OFF.

Swirl valve is opened and closed three-time at engine OFF.

☞ ECM controls swirl valve to wide open and wide close position in order to learn swirl valve position at IG key OFF under the condition that engine coolant is over 70℃.

Fig. 4) Swirl valve is opened and closed three-time at engine OFF.

21.

Are the signal waveforms normal?

▶ Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Replace VSCA (Intake manifold assembly) and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair".

note

In case of replacing VSCA , perform the "COMPONENT CHANGE ROUTINE" procedure with scan tool. If the "COMPONENT CHANGE ROUTINE" procedure has not completed until automatic learning completed, it may cause vehicle performance and exhaust gas problem.
