General Description

IMS(Integrated Memory System) is a system which can memorize the position of power seat(PTM), tilt/telescope handle(SCM), side mirror(DDM/ADM) by position sensor and restores them to a previous position. (Memory function is not allowed during driving for safety reason)

DTC Description

SCM sets this code when amount of change of the tilt motor position sensor is little than 8edge (4pulse) for 1sec. This means that tilt motor/sensor stuck due to open or short in circuit or external cause (compulsive restriction)

Scantool Data Analysis
1.

Connect GDS.

2.

IG "ON" and engine "OFF".

3.

Select "DTC Analysis" mode.

4.

After erase DTC, keep the vehicle condition within "the enable conditions" (Refer to "DTC Detecting Condition" table).

5.

Is the same DTC occurred again?

▶ Go to "Component Inspection" procedure.

▶ Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor's and/or SCM's connector or was repaired and SCM memory was not cleared. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Component Inspection
■ Check tilt motor
1.

Connect scantool

2.

IG "ON" & ENG "OFF"

3.

Select "Actuation Test" mode.

4.

Execute "Tilt Steering Column (UP, DOWN)" test.

Specification : Turned to pressed direction

5.

Is motor working normal ?

▶ Go to "W/Harness Inspection" procedure.

▶ Go to next procedure.

IG "ON" & ENG "OFF"

7.

After connect GDS, select "Current Date" menu.

8.

Check whether "Tilt (UP,DOWN) Switch" is turned to "ON" when the control switch is pressed. (UP, DOWN)

Specification : Service data is switched. (ON ↔ OFF)

9.

Is the service data normal?

▶ Go to "Terminal and Connector Inspection" procedure.

▶ Substitute with a known - good component and check for proper operation.

If the problem is corrected, replace the component and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness(es) and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found?

▶ Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to 'Signal Circuit Inspection' procedure.

Signal Circuit Inspection
1.

IG "ON" & ENG "OFF".

2.

Measure the signal voltage of "Tilt Motor Position Sensor" with pressing the tilt switch.

Approx. 1~4 V during motor working

3.

Is the signal output normal?

▶ Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Check open or short in circuit of Tilt Motor Position(UP/DOWN) Sensor.

If the circuit of Tilt Motor Position(UP/DOWN) Sensor is normal, replace the tilt motor and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Verification of Vehicle Repair

After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected.

1.

Connect scan tool and select "DTC Analysis" mode.

2.

Clear the DTCs and Operate the vehicle within DTC Enable conditions in General information.

3.

Is any DTC outputted again?

▶ Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure.

▶ System performing to specification at this time.
