General Description

Once IPM receives rear windshield defog switch working signal, it sends the signal to RAM by CAN communition. RAM performs a defogging function by operating rear windshield defog relay.

DTC Description

This code is set when RAM detects rear windshield defog relay not working even thought relay working condition is met. (relay fuse open, faulty relay, faulty relay operating IC)

Scantool Data Analysis
1.

Connect GDS.

2.

IG "ON" and engine "OFF".

3.

Select "DTC Analysis" mode.

4.

After erase DTC, keep the vehicle condition within "the enable conditions" (Refer to "DTC Detecting Condition" table).

5.

Is the same DTC occurred again?

▶ Go to next procedure.

▶ Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor's and/or RAM's connector or was repaired and RAM memory was not cleared. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

6.

IG "OFF" and Connect GDS.

7.

IG "ON" & ENG "OFF"

8.

Select "Current Data" mode.

9.

Monitor the "Rear Windshield Defog State" parameter on the scantool.

10.

Is the service data normal?

▶ Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness(es) and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found?

▶ Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to "Power Circuit Inspection" procedure.

Power Circuit Inspection
■ Power Circuit of rear windshield defog relay circuit inspection
1.

IG "OFF" or IG "ON" & ENG "OFF"

2.

Depress windshield defog switch.

3.

Measure the rear windshield defog working signal voltage of RAM.

Specification : Approx. 12V

4.

Is the signal output normal?

▶ Substitute with a known - good RAM and check for proper operation.

If the problem is corrected, replace the RAM and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Check for rear windshield defog fuse and relay, open or short in circuit of rear windshield defog relay singnal. Repair or replace as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Verification of Vehicle Repair

After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected.

1.

Connect scan tool and select "DTC Analysis" mode.

2.

Clear the DTCs and Operate the vehicle within DTC Enable conditions in General information.

3.

Is any DTC outputted again?

▶ Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure.

▶ System performing to specification at this time.
