TCU receives shift lever position signal When driver sets shift lever at the R position for backward driving. TCU transfers it to cluster by high CAN communication. Cluster transfers it to RAM by low CAN communication. RAM turns on back up lamp.
This code is set when back up lamp and backwarning system circuit is open for more than 150ms during back up lamp operating.
Item | Detecting Condition | Possible Cause |
DTC Strategy | ● Load Mornitoring | ● Poor connection ● Open in back up lamp and backwarning system circuit ● Faulty back up lamp and backwarning system ● Faulty RAM |
Enable Conditions | ● IG KEY ON.
Threshold Value | ● It is normal if output voltage is 12V.
Diagnostic Time | ● Immediately
DTC Erasing Time | ● DTC is erased immediately after trouble fixed. |
Connect GDS.
IG "ON" and engine "OFF".
Select "DTC Analysis" mode.
After erase DTC, keep the vehicle condition within "the enable conditions" (Refer to "DTC Detecting Condition" table).
Is the same DTC occurred again?

![]() | ▶ Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor's and/or RAM's connector or was repaired and RAM memory was not cleared. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. |
IG "OFF" and connect scantool
IG "ON" & ENG "OFF"
Select "Actuation Test" mode.
Execute "back up lamp and backwarning system" test..
Is back up lamp and backwarning system working normal ?

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness(es) and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.
Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.
Has a problem been found?
![]() | ▶ Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. |

IG "OFF", disconnect battery (-) terminal.
Disconnect RAM connector.
Measure resistance between the back up lamp terminal of RAM harness connector and ground of the back up lamp.
Measure resistance between the backwarning signal terminal of RAM harness connector and FBWS harness connector.
Specification: Approx. 1 Ω
Is the measured resistance within specification?
![]() | ▶ Substitute with a known - good BWS and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace the BSW and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. ▶ Substitute with a known - good FAM and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace the FAM and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. |
![]() | ▶ Repair open in circuit of back up lamp and backwarning system or back up lamp internal open, and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. |
After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected.
Connect scan tool and select "DTC Analysis" mode.
Clear the DTCs and Operate the vehicle within DTC Enable conditions in General information.
Is any DTC outputted again?
