First of all check damage of harness and terminals : Check terminals for contact resistance, corrosion and deformation.
The test is to inspect the charging system (alternator) performance. Perform this test at a little discharging battery state.
IG KEY "OFF", ENGINE "ON"
Check battery voltage using a multimeter.
Install a ampere meter (Clamp type) to output cable of alternator.
Turn on electric devices (head lamps, fog lamps, defogger, blower…etc)
Measure the charging current and voltage after accelerating above 2,000 rpm.
☞ Charging voltage of alternator should be 13.0 ~ 14.5 V. (Fig.1)
☞ Charging current of alternator should be above 80 % of alternator capacity. (Fig.2)
Symptom | Inspection procedure | |
Case1 | ● Charging voltage is below 12.5 V and charging current is too low above 2,000 rpm. | ● Inspect charging system circuit after checking tension and slip of the alternator belt. ● If charging current is abnormal although charging system circuit is normal, Replace the alternator. |
Case2 | ● Charging voltage and current is normal above 2,000 rpm. | ● Alternator is normal, Inspect the dark current. ☞ Go to "Dark current inspection". |
