Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness(es) and terminal condition. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical systems or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found?

▶ Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to "C-CAN Communication Line Inspection" procedure.

C-CAN Communication Line Inspection
■ CAN Communication Line Inspection (SPAS ECU ↔ PCM/TCM)
1.

IG "OFF"

2.

Disconnect Battery (-) terminal.

3.

Disconnect SPAS ECU connector and PCM/TCM connector.

4.

Measure the resistance between Pin No. 85 (C-CAN High) terminal of PCM/TCM harness connector and Pin No. 19 (C-CAN High) terminal of SPAS ECU harness connector.

5.

Measure the resistance between Pin No. 83 (C-CAN Low) terminal of PCM/TCM harness connector and Pin No. 20 (C-CAN Low) terminal of SPAS ECU harness connector.

Specification : Approx. below 1 Ω

6.

Is the measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "Inspection procedure for impedance measurement" procedure.

▶ Repair open in C-CAN circuit and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

■ Inspection procedure for impedance measurement

When measuring impedance, it is generally necessary to disconnect the circuit being tested from the power supply before hand. The vehicle's battery should therefore be disconnected and wait about four minutes to allow all capacitors in the system to discharge.

Inspection procedure for resistance test :

7.

The CAN bus must be disconnected from the power supply.

8.

The measurement is taken between the CAN High and CAN Low leads.

9.

The measurement recorded may differ from the specified levels by a few ohms.

■ Impedance measurement with matching resistor
10.

Ignition "OFF" and disconnect the battery and wait about four minutes.

11.

Make sure all modules are properly connected.

12.

Measure resistance between Pin No. 3 (C-CAN High) and Pin No. 11 (C-CAN Low) terminal of DATA Link Connector(DLC).

Specification : Approx. 60 Ω

13.

Is the measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "CAN Signal Inspection" procedure.

▶ If the value is out of specification then, go to "CAN Resistor Inspection" procedure.

※ If the measured value is approx. 0Ω, then check for short CAN communication line.

※ If the measured value is approx. ∞Ω, then check for open CAN communication line.

■ CAN Resistor Inspection
14.

Ignition switch "OFF"

15.

Disconnect battery (-) cable.

16.

Refer to "Shop Manual" and disconnect Instrument cluster and PCM connector.

17.

Measure the resistance between Pin No. 85 (C-CAN High) and Pin No. 83 (C-CAN Low) terminal of PCM.

18.

Measure the resistance between Pin No. 23 (C-CAN High) and Pin No. 24 (C-CAN Low) terminal of Cluster.

Specification : Approx. 120 Ω

19.

Is the measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "CAN Signal Inspection" procedure.

▶ Carefully re-do this troubleshooting guide steps.

▶ If no problems were found with the circuits or connectors, replace PCM or Instrument Cluster and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

■ CAN Signal Inspection
20.

Ignition switch "OFF"

21.

Connect VMI to GDS and launch the oscilloscope (2 Channel) :

Channel A (+) : Pin No. 3 (C-CAN High) terminal (DLC)

Channel A (-) : Ground

Channel B (+) : Pin No. 11 (C-CAN Low) terminal (DLC)

Channel B (-) : Ground

22.

Ignition switch "ON"

Specification : C-CAN High voltage - Approx. 2.8V / C-CAN Low voltage - Approx. 2.2V (Average)

23.

Is the measured value withins specification?

▶ Fault might be intermittent and caused either by poor contact in connectors or wiring harness, or it has been repaired and control module memory is not cleared yet. Thoroughly check terminal of battery, all connectors (and connections) for looseness, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, and/or damage.

▶ Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Repair open or short in C-CAN communication line and then, go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ If problem keep occurs, go to "Component Inspection" procedure.
