Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals.

Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check all connectors (and connections) for looseness, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, and/or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found?

▶ Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to "CAN Communication Line Inspection" procedure.

CAN Communication Line Inspection
■ Inspection procedure for impedance measurement

When measureing impedance, it is generally necessary to disconnect the circuit being tested from the power supply before hand. The vehicle's battery should therefore be disconnected and wait about four minutes to allow all capacitors in the system to discharge.

Inspection procedure for resistance test:

1.

The CAN bus must be disconnected from the power supply

2.

The measurement is taken between the CAN High and CAN Low leads

3.

The measurement recorded may differ from the specified levels by a few ohms

■ Impedance measurement with matching resistor
4.

Ignition "OFF" and disconnect the battery and wait about four minutes.

5.

Make sure all modules are properly connected.

6.

Measure resistance between Pin No. 3 (C-CAN High) and Pin No. 11 (C-CAN Low) terminal of Data Link Connector(DLC).

Specification : Approx. 60 Ω

7.

Is measured value within specification?

▶ Check each module connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ If the measured value is out of specification, go to "CAN resistor inspection" procedure.

※ If the measured value is approx. 0Ω, then check for short CAN communication line.

※ If the measured value is approx. 120Ω, then check for open CAN commuication line of control module with resistor.

■ CAN resistor inspection
8.

Ignition OFF.

9.

Disconnect Battery (-) terminal.

10.

Disconnect ECM and BCM connectors.

11.

Measure resistance between Pin No. 81 (C-CAN Low) and Pin No. 64 (C-CAN High) terminal of ECM.

12.

Measure resistance between Pin No. 17 (C-CAN Low) and Pin No. 16 (C-CAN High) terminal of BCM.

Specification : About 120 Ω

13.

Is measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "Short in CAN Communication Line Inspection" procedure.

▶ Carefully re-do this troubleshooting guide steps.

▶ If problem still occurs, replace ECM/PCM or BCM whichever has defected resistor and then go to "Verification of Vechicle Repair" procedure.

■ Short in CAN Communication Line Inspection
14.

Ignition "ON".

15.

Measure voltage between Pin No. 3 (CAN High) terminal of Data Link Connector(DLC) and chassis ground.

16.

Measure voltage between Pin No. 11 (CAN Low) terminal of Data Link Connector(DLC) and chassis ground.

Specification : CAN High Voltage - Approx. 2.6 V / CAN Low Voltage - Approx. 2.4 V

17.

Is measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "Component Inspection" procedure.

▶ Repair open or short in CAN Communication circuit and then go to "Verification of vehicle Repair" procedure.
