DPF Regeneration

This procedure regenerates the DPF by force using scan tool when the DPF regeneration procedure cannot be performed while driving. In the following cases, the DPF regeneration procedure may not be performed as the vehicle cannot enter "Regeneration Mode" while driving.

-

Low speed driving

-

Short distance driving

-

Driving with frequent stops

warning

When performing the DPF service regeneration mode indoors, fire or burning injuries may occur due to high temperature exhaust gas.

Therefore, perform the DPF service regeneration mode only in an outdoor safe zone.

Forced Regeneration Condition

Engine coolant temperature: Approximately 70℃

Engine at idle

P-range (A/T) or Neutral (M/T)

Normal battery voltage

Full electrical load ON (A/C ON if equipped, Blower ON at maximum speed, Headlamps ON, Wipers ON, Other Lamps ON, etc.)

note

The electrical load of air conditioner is very high. Accordingly, to reach regeneration mode quickly, turn it ON (if equipped).

1.

Turn ignition switch OFF.

2.

Connect a GDS to Data Link Connector (DLC).

3.

Start engine at idle and P-range (A/T) or neutral (M/T).

4.

Apply full electrical load to the vehicle (A/C ON, Blower ON at maximum speed, Headlamps ON, Wipers ON, and Other Lamps ON, etc.)

5.

Select "Vehicle, Model year, Engine, System".

6.

Select "Vehicle S/W Management".

7.

Select "DPF Service Regeneration".

8.

Perform the test in accordance with the message.

note

If the predefined conditions are not satisfied, DPF regeneration test will fail.

Removal
note

Always check for damaged DPF assembly before removing it.

Remove the exhaust pipe from the DPF end. Check for damage or decoloration (white) of the rear section of the DPF.

Check for soot from the rear section of the DPF. If black soot is found, DPS assembly is likely faulty.

1.

Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the battery negative (-) terminal.

2.

Remove the under cover.

(Refer to Engine and transaxle assembly in this group)

3.

Remove the alternater.

(Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Alternator")

4.

Disconnect the wiring connectors and harness clamps and remove the wiring protector around the exhaust manifold.

5.

Disconnect the wiring mounting bracket (A).

6.

Remove the exhaust manifold heat protector (A).

Tightening torque :

14.7 ~ 19.6 N.m (1.5 ~ 2.0 kgf.m, 10.8 ~ 14.5 lb-ft)

7.

Remove the EGR pipe (A).

Tightening torque

Bolt (B) : 21.6 ~ 27.5N.m (2.2 ~ 2.8kgf.m, 15.9 ~ 20.3lb-ft)

Bolt (C) : 29.4 ~ 34.3N.m (3.0 ~ 3.5kgf.m, 21.7 ~ 25.3lb-ft)

8.

Remove the front muffler (A).

Tightening torque :

39.2 ~ 58.9 N.m (4.0 ~ 6.0 kgf.m, 28.9 ~ 43.4 lb-ft)

9.

Remove the catalytic converter brackets (A).

Tightening torque :

49.0 ~ 63.7 N.m (5.0 ~ 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 ~ 47.0 lb-ft)

10.

Remove the catalytic converter (A).

Tightening torque :

49.0 ~ 63.7 N.m (5.0 ~ 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 ~ 47.0 lb-ft)

Installation
1.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Adjustment
Converter Change
note

After replacing the Converter, the "Component Change Routine" procedure MUST be performed. Otherwise, trouble related with engine performance or emission control may occur until ECM learning about the component is over.

1.

Turn the ignition switch OFF.

2.

Connect the GDS to Data Link Connector (DLC).

3.

Turn ignition switch ON.

4.

Select "Vehicle, Model year, Engine, System".

5.

Select "Vehicle S/W Management".

6.

Select "Component Change Routine".

7.

Select "Converter Change".

8.

Turn the ignition switch OFF and then turn it ON again in 20 seconds.
