Removal And Installation
Thermostat
1.

Remove the engine room front under cover.

(Refer to Engine And Transaxle Assembly - "Engine Room Under Cover")

2.

Drain the coolant.

(Refer to Cooling System - "Coolant")

3.

Disconnect the radiator lower hose (A).

4.

Remove the water inlet fitting (A).

Tightening torque :

18.6 ~ 23.5 N.m (1.9 ~ 2.4 kgf.m, 13.7 ~ 17.4 lb-ft)

5.

Remove the thermostat (A).

note

Install the thermostat with the jiggle valve facing upward.

6.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Thermostat housing
1.

Remove the thermostat.

2.

Remove the drive belt.

(Refer to Drive Belt System - "Drive Belt")

3.

Remove the intake manifold.

(Refer to Intake And Exhaust System - "Intake Manifold")

4.

Remove the alternator

(Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Alternator")

5.

Disconnect the water hose (A) and then remove the water pipe mounting bolt (B).

Tightening torque :

9.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7 lb-ft)

6.

Remove the heater pipe mounting bolt (A) and nut (B).

Tightening torque :

19.6 ~ 26.5 N.m (2.0 ~ 2.7 kgf.m, 14.5 ~ 19.5 lb-ft)

7.

Remove the thermostat housing (A) and then remove the heater pipe (B).

Tightening torque :

18.6 ~ 23.5 N.m (1.9 ~ 2.4 kgf.m, 13.7 ~ 17.4 lb-ft)

8.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

9.

Fill the radiator with coolant.

(Refer to Cooling System - "Coolant")

10.

Start engine and check for leaks.

Inspection
1.

Immerse the thermostat in water and gradually heat the water.

2.

Check the valve opening temperature.

Valve opening temperature:

86.5 ~ 89.5°C (187.7 ~ 193.1˚F)

Full opening temperature: 100°C (212˚F)

3.

Check the valve lift.

Valve lift : 8 mm (0.3 in) or more at 100°C (212˚F)
