Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check all connectors(and connections) for looseness, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, and/or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found?

▶ Repair or replace as necessary and then, Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedue.

▶ In case SPAS ECU is replaced, Refer to "Component Inspection" procedure in DTC 1702 and perform SPAS Variant coding in the "Vehicle S/W Management" with GDS.

▶ Go to "CAN communication Inspection" procedure.

CAN Communication Inspection
1.

Install all the control unit (Module)

2.

Ignition "ON" & Engine "OFF"

3.

Measure signal waveform between C-CAN-HIGH connector (Pin No.22) of SPAS ECU and chassis ground.

4.

Measure signal waveform between C-CAN-LOW connector (Pin No.23) of SPAS ECU and chassis ground.

Specification : Refer to Signal waveform

Fig.1) CAN communication waveform

5.

Is the measured value within specifications?

▶ Go to check open in CAN communication Line.

▶ If the measured value is battery voltage, check that it is short to battery in the circuit. Then, go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ If the measured value is approx. "0V", check that it is short to ground, open or short in CAN High & Low. Then, go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Check Open in CAN Communication Line
1.

Ignition "OFF" & Engine "OFF"

2.

Disconnect the battery (-) cable.

3.

Disconnect the ABS/ESP connector and SPAS connector.

4.

Check open in harness between CAN communication line of SPAS ECU (C-CAN-HIGH Pin No.22) and ABS/ESP ECU (C-CAN-HIGH Pin No.26)

5.

Check open in harness between CAN communication line of SPAS ECU (C-CAN-Low Pin No.23) and ABS/ESP ECU (C-CAN-Low Pin No.14)

Specification : Below approx. 1Ω

6.

Is the measured value within specifications?

▶ Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage in the SPAS ECU and ABS/ESP ECU. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Substitute with a known-good Sample of ABS/ESP ECU and check for proper operation. If problem is corrected, replace ABS/ESP ECU and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Repair open in CAN communication line. Then, go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
