Ignition Switch "OFF"
Disconnect batter (-) cable.
Refer to "Shop Manual" and disconnect the ECTS connector.
Refer to "Shop Manual" and remove the ECTS.
Soak the thermister of sensor in an engine coolant.
Measure resistance between Pin No. 1(Signal) and Pin No. 3(Ground) of the ECTS.
Specification : Refer to the chart below.
※ Temperature is inversely proportional with resistance.
Temp.(℃) | -40 | -20 | 0 | 20 | 40 | 60 | 80 |
Resistance (kΩ) | 48.14 | 14.13 ~ 16.83 | 5.79 | 2.31 ~ 2.59 | 1.15 | 0.59 | 0.32 |

Is the measured value within specification?
![]() | ▶ Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor’s and/or ECM’s connector or was repaired and ECM memory was not cleared. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and go to "Verification of vehicle Repair" procedure. |
![]() | ▶ If no problems were found with the circuits or connectors, Replace the ECTS and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. |
When install a part, tighten it within specification.
If drop down the part, check part's operating condition whether it is damaged or not.
After replacing the ECTS, check coolant level. Refill coolant as necessary.
