Perform spark test
Remove the engine cover.
Remove the ignition coils.
Remove the spark plugs.
Disconnect the 4 injector connectors.
Connect the spark plug to the ignition coils.
Ground the spark plug to the engine.
If the procedure No.1 is impossible, you must performed No.2 procedure.
Check if sparks occur at each spark plug while engine is being cranked.
Do not crank the engine for more then 5 seonds.
Connect the 4 injector connectors.
Install the spark plugs and ignition coils.
Install the cylinder head center cover and engine cover.
Inspect the electrode or the spark plug for damage or deformation
Using an ohmmeter, measure the insulation resistance.
Specification: 10 MΩ or more
Alternative inspection method
Accelerate the enigne to about 3,000 rpm 3 times or more.
Remove the spark plug.
Check the spark plug visually.
If the electrode is dry, the spark plug is normal.
If the electrode is wet, check the damage and electrode gap.
Install the spark plug.
Check the spark plug electrode gap.
If the gap is not within the specification below, replace the spark plug.
Specification:
0.9 ~ 1.0 mm (0.035 ~ 0.039 in.) [Gamma 1.6 MPI/GDI]
0.7 ~ 0.8 mm (0.0276 ~ 0.0315 in.) [Gamma 1.6 FFV]
1.0 ~ 1.1 mm (0.0394 ~ 0.0433 in.) [Nu 2.0MPI]
When adjusting the gap of a new spark plug, bend only the base of the ground electrode. Do not touch the tip.
Do not attempt to adjust the gap of a used plug.
