Add 0.7 liter of ATF ATF SP-IV after removing the eyebolt (A).
The regular maintenance (level check) of 6-speed automatic transaxle fluid is not normally needed, but if a leak is detected, leak repair and check should be performed.
When checking the ATF level, be careful not to allow foreign substance (like dust) to enter through the filler hole.
Remove the battery and battery tray.
(Refer to "Charging system" in EE group.)
Add 0.7 liter of ATF ATF SP-IV after removing the eyebolt (A).
Start the engine to heat up the ATF.
Do not step on the brake and accelerator simultaneously to heat up the ATF.
Check that the temperature of the ATF is between 50°C and 60°C (122-140°F) using the GDS.
Move the shift lever slowly from "P" to "D", then back to "P". Repeat this sequence a total of two times and then move the shift lever to "N" range.
Pause in each range more than 2 seconds.
Lift the vehicle and remove the ATF level plug (A) from the valve body cover.
When removing the ATF level plug, keep the vehicle horizontal.
Check the ATF level.
Normal: ATF flows out in a thin oil stream.
Excessive (abnormal)): ATF flows out over 0.9 liter for 2 minutes.
Insufficient (abnormal): There is no fluid flow.
If the ATF level is too high or low, follow the below instruction.
Excessive: Drain until the ATF flows out in a thin oil stream.
Insufficient: Add until the ATF flows out in a thin oil stream.
Install the ATF level plug (A).
The existing ATF level plug O-ring (A) must be replaced with new one. (Do not reuse it.)
Lower the vehicle and install the eyebolt (A).
Tightening torque: 4.9 ~ 5.9 N.m (0.5 ~ 0.6 kgf.m, 3.6 ~ 4.3 lb-ft)
The existing eyebolt O-ring (B) must be replaced with new one. (Do not reuse it.)
The 6-speed automatic transaxle fluid does not need to be replaced in normal driving condition, but in severe driving conditions, it should be replaced every 60,000 miles (100,000 km ).
Severe driving conditions are as follows.
Driving in rough road (bumpy, gravel, snowy, unpaved road, etc.)
Driving in mountain road, ascent/descent
Repetition of short distance driving
More than 50% driving in heavy city traffic in hot weather above 32°C(89.6°F) .
Police cars, taxis, commercial vehicles or towing vehicles, etc
Remove the ATF drain plug (A), allow the fluid to drain out and then reinstall the drain plug.
Tightening torque:
33.3 ~ 43.1 N.m (3.4 ~ 4.4 kgf.m, 24.6 ~ 31.8 lb-ft)
The existing ATF drain plug gasket must be replaced with new one. (Do not reuse it.)
Remove the battery and battery tray.
(Refer to "Charging system" in EE group.)
Remove the eyebolt (A).
Fill the automatic transaxle with about 5.0 liters of ATF SP-IV through the ATF filler hole.
Perform the ATF level check procedure.
